Hey TP, We still aren't as warm as when Columbus landed in the Western Hemisphere 525 years ago but 2016 was the hottest year "on record"?

If "the record" is limited to data collected at railway stations since the 1850s, it only means it is the hottest year since the 1850s.

How many railway stations were gathering weather data globally in 1850?

How many railway stations in Botswana in 1850 or Chile in 1850, China? Siberia?

Enough to create a global record or enough to let a train engineer know what to expect at the next station 45 miles ahead?

What do the CPR records have for Moose Jaw in July 12 of 1870?

A blank because their was no Moose Jaw or train in Western Canada in 1870 collecting data for "the record" therefore there is no record.

How far forward would you have to jump to get enough data from enough stations globally?

50-60 years? 80-90 years?

The start of feasible global data compilation came to be around the same year Ford quit making the Model A.
