Windows to your mom's knees

These may be the most confusing jeans Nordstrom has ever sold.
On its website, the retail giant advertises “Clear Knee Mom Jeans” by Topshop, but the garment is less futuristic than its title might suggest. The jeans are high-waisted — as “mom jeans” are — but then there are rectangular clear plastic patches on the knees.
“Slick plastic panels bare your knees for a futuristic feel in tapered and cropped high-waist jeans,” reads the description.
If that wasn’t perturbing enough, check out the price tag: $132.56 ($95 US). This is from the same store where a leather-wrapped rock sold out online in December for $85 (US).
Another fashion crime is the length of the jeans — above the ankle, but below Capri.
However, taste in denim is in the eye of the beholder and Nordstrom is defending these particular jeans.
“We serve a lot of different customers, each with their own style,” said Nordstrom spokesman Kendall Ault. “We’ve always worked to offer them a wide selection of merchandise, including new and unique brands and styles they might not see at other retailers. We realize that taste is subjective and not every customer will love every product we carry.”
But the jeans have also received some rave reviews on the Nordstrom site with an overall rating of four out of five stars. Though, one could place bets the reviews are sarcastic.
“Finally! These jeans are the perfect (whimsical!) solution to those chilly spring days when you want something fun and a little revealing, but you don’t want to freeze your knees off!” wrote one poster. “Can’t wait to wear them at my moms’ group Easter Egg Hunt! I’ll be the only one there with no grass stains on my knees after helping my little one scoop up eggs. Just planned a knee buff at the salon so I’ll be ready!”
Another poster gave four stars out of five as a new way of framing her children’s pictures.
“I’ve been looking for a way to display the free 4x6 prints that apps have been offering lately. I’m only giving 4 stars because I had to add a panel in the back to hold the photos,” the poster wrote. “My teenagers are going to be SO excited when I wear these to show off new pictures of them. I’m especially excited for #TBT!!”
And then there were the outright scathing reviews.
“These are the ugliest jeans that I ever saw,” wrote one person.

Wow! You don't even have to make an effort to get them dirty! Or maybe they have another motive. It's so you can travel to poorer countries, fit in, but still be clean. Those 'naked knees' jeans would be a big hit in the ME.
