The things are environmental blights. Visual and aural pollution of the worst sort. On top of being an utterly inefficient and expensive source of energy, a waste or resources.
High capacity thermal power generation.. by way of fossil fuels or nuclear sources will be the cleanest, cheapest and most environmentally responsible way of producing energy for the next 50 years. The only possible replacement would be Fusion Power, which is decades away from feasibility.
