That is what it is... a back door tax or tarriff. The cost of doing business and trade will become more expensive in the guise of carbon credits.

Canada shouldn't have to pay it OR just impose the same carbon credits on the US when we buy oil. Now THAT can generate A LOT of carbon credits...agreed?
The US knows it can't slap additional tarriffs on foreign goods or we'll get it rammed up our a--. We need to find another way out of this mess.
