GDP only reflect the government efficacy(may be wrong, I am not sure, not major in financial or politics), I think, why not consider about our own life quality?
I have read that in whatever country there always be one percent people never afraid of hungry or even the war, because they have enough capacity to suffer the natural and man-made disaster.

GDP is Gross domestic product. It is only a good mesurement with capitalist countries. You can't compare, a communist country with a capitalist one with GDP.

oh,I've got it.
to compare communist country with capitalist countries, key problem is the proprietorship of capital, right?

GDP only mesures the economy. Its the amount of money in one countries economy.Communist countries arnt the same. Mostly everything is free, or very cheap. So their GDP is usually the lowest.

RE: Why is Canada a membe

There's one country...can't remember which...that started measuring success in terms of happiness quotient. That quotient includes GDP, but it also includes things like available medical care and education. Oddly enough, as the happiness quotient has risen due to non-monetary concerns, the GDP has risen with it. The country is still poor and has many problems, but they are progressing while many countries that worry only about GDP are regressing.

Bluealberta is right, NAFTA has been good for Canada. The leftists would support Ontario business interests who would continue to force us buy overpriced goods made in Ontario. Yet pay lower than the world price for oil from Alberta. Forget that.

Now what the public needs is consumer free trade. No more duties or taxes on any goods purchased outside the country. This is the next logical step.

That only works if workers can move freely from country to country too. In the context of NAFTA, that would leave us able to go work for $6.00/hour in Mexico if we wanted.

Funny. Sad thing is, if only the US would actually follow the rules of NAFTA.
