ITN: Why are you laughing. Unfortunately this is the truth. When I was in Greece recently, there was some Americans in line in front of me. They were treated like Sh*t by the Greek Airport Authority just for having the American attitude while taking to the guard.

It is indeed unfortunate.

mog: nice to see that ITN finds it so funny. That alone portrays the "American " attitude. Oh well , it is his/their problem. If they like it that way.. so be it.

I have flown to Greece by myself and with groups at least a dozen times over the past 20 years and I have never been treated badly or anywhere else in Europe for that matter, or Egypt, or China.

Once in Australia when I was getting a haircut and the barber flipped when I told him I was from New York.

And of course I am going to laugh, some of you are obsessed over this, you have nothing else to talk about. If you don't talk about the US or its citizens, you have almost nothing else to say. Are we responsible for EVERYTHING that goes on in the world?

No you are not. your government is responsible for a lot of things that goes badly in the world.

We are not obsessed over this. It is a topic to discussed with open minds and heart. We may not agree on a lot of things but we can at least learn from each other.

We can talk about the stinky weather in the US if you want. LOL

Mog, just one comment if I may. You can say anything you wish about the US government all you want and you will see that I will agree with you on a great many issues. But when you start throwing stereotypes around, I will correct you.

The perceptive arrogance that Americans have as I stated before does not exist. Are we loud? Some are, some aren't. Is there a "superpower" like arrogance. Yes, by some there are.

Question here if I may, have any of you ever been to France? Do you think the French are arrogant overall? And do you think they are racists with a capital R?

ITN: have you been overseas since bush took office?? Has there been a change in how you are treated?? Or do most simply put on a polite and tolerant front and breath a sigh of relief when you leave???

( what I hear from many European FRIENDS.....tells me exactly how they feel.......and it ain't what you are describing)

the other componant is : Many are just indifferent now. "there they go again" sort of thing.....and have become somewhat immunized to the " US Attitude"----as if it has reached overkill.....and better to be ignored.

either way, it does not sound pleasant.

The last time I was in Europe was last November. Greece, Italy and Germany. And no, I don't sew the Canadian flag on my backpack either.
I did meet a Kuwaiti in Germany at a bar and we began to talk and he bought me a beer, and the bartender was from Egypt and he bought me a round also.
And quite honestly if people trickle down Bush's policies to Americans that shows more about them than us quite frankly.

The only thing I hate about the French is that their women never shaves their armpits.

back to our discussion. Thank you for standing up for your believes. Yes a lot of countries have some arrogance in them but not to the level of the average G.I. Joe.

I'm shocked your a muslim and you know nothing about French racism against muslims. And as far as arrogance goes they top the European list.

Everything else you talk about are pre-conceptions you have and thats about all it is and I assume you have never been to the US.

so is it safe to assume you don't sew any emblem onto your travel gear??? (as in nothing American either)

it IS reasuring to hear that you encountered no "strains" or anti American responses or attitude. I do think it depends a lot on the person. So again......it is a tad foolhardy to generalize.

(yet , so easy to do ;-)

Why would I? Who does? And don't tell me Americans do, I've been through enough airports to know that no one ever does it except perhaps young people going on a European tour.

interesting. I live near a well known ski resort where many Americans come to play , and it is quite often that one sees an American flag or pin on them......or their suitcase or whatever. Keychains too. But then , they have no reason to feel threatened here as they are treated with respect.--and no different from tourists from Japan, Europe , ME ........you name it. Quite frankly , we don't care where people are from as long as they are respectful.....and are treated likewise and have a good time while here.

curious.---- so nothing is absolute.

Keychains and pins are not luggage Ocean. And I have never seen any indicators on any luggage from any nationality.

Since nothing is obsolute, does that include your perceptions of Americans? Or are you taking an exception to that?

Keychains and pins are not luggage Ocean.

that is silly nitpicking

Not sure how one can make absolute assessments from an airport terminal. We see people here from all over the world. Some do wear little pins of their nationality , others don't.

in the final analysis .......who cares.???

the issue was whether Americans travel under the CA flag for "security " reasons. If they don't......fine, If they do......be grateful you can.

Simple, you look for your luggage because they all look alike, have never noticed anything

Well apparently you do, since you bring it up.

No, the issue you brought up is Americans travel under the Canadian flag so others won't be hostile towards them. This is how the whole conversation started.

By the way, have you ever been to the US?

Don't be shocked that being a Muslim and know nothing about the french. I do know. But i am shocked for telling us that you were sitting with 2 guys one from Kuwait and the other from Eygpt and they offered you a drink. Do you know that muslims don't drink and if they do, not in public.
