Not really. That's just people's perception because they don't understand bureaucracy. The reality is that life under Trudeau is not drastically different then life under Harper despite both men's opposing views on many things. This is something the Trumpites have wildly underestimated. Most, if not all the EOs Donald have signed will be eventually overturned or abandoned. These ships are far too big to change direction on a whim.

As for politicians, probably the most influential politician in the last 30 years never gained power. Nobody in politics was talking about balancing budgets until Preston Manning came along.

It probably would. In theory the laws, regulations, policies and standards should be in place to have departments run themselves. Some people don't like that because bureaucrats aren't elected but I'd rather have a knowledgeable firefighter or police officer running an emergency department than farmer Bob, lawyer Bill or lumberjack Taxslave. I still laugh when people talk about the poor job Bush did during hurricane Katrina. How bad does your disaster response have to be in order for the President to make a difference? If the mayor has to get personally involved so you can have your garbage picked up tomorrow, the system is broken

The problem with most politicians is that when they first enter politics they think they're going to change the world. That's Trump's issue because unlike other presidents, he has no experience in politics. Neither do most Trumpites so they have wild expectations. Trump will probably learn but he'll have made too many enemies by then to be anything close to effective. How many times can he brag about what he's going to do while accomplishing nothing before his supporters quit listening.

I find politics to be infuriating. It's like picking which used car salesman you want to lie and rip you off each time you vote. I vote, but I'm choosing the lesser of the evils/liars

They need to add 2 options to the ballots. 1 with a blank line so we can insert whomever we want and 2 none of the above.

The najority of people are completely incapable of having a civil political discussion for any length of time in person.

I remember being told by my parents as a child that there were certain topics you didn't discuss in polite company.

I prefer to discuss with people whom have no real effect on my everday life. Your disagreeing with me is not going to loose me a promotion or have my workmates dislike my politics and thereby sink me with the boss...etc etc.

Avoid in what way?
People avoid entering politics because they have ethics that would mean nothing as a politician.
People avoid talking about politics because it usually ends in an argument.
People avoid thinking about it because it makes no sense and thinking about it is a waste of time to them. Or because it's too complicated for their little brains.

Well, this is kinda off-topic but politics aren't the only thing people "avoid" learning or talking about - finances is another. I find that people in general avoid whatever they dislike or do not understand. It's an amazing condition called "burying your head in the sand". It's quite a popular phenomenon and I run across it every day. People simply don't want, or couldn't be bothered, to understand different issues (that may or may not affect them) or want to learn more about them.


I guess from my perspective, politics is only one, (but the more obvious) discussion (for lack of a better word) that some people avoid at all costs. Both politics and finances tend to lead to heated discourse for sure!!

Except that I'm probably more involved in politics then any other member here. I sit on municipal committees and boards of associations that directly impact provincial policy decisions. There are many ways to get active in politics.
