Don't fall for the spin from the right. They say one thing and do another. The department of homeland security, created by the 'small government guys', is as big as it gets.

People with a deep religious belief do not need government to tell them what to do, they have their belief system do that for them. It's those who have no religious belief that need big brother to control their lives and give it meaning; hence they jump on all the bandwagons such as big government, the green movement, global warming, and so on.

Ohh please, what a bunch of bunk. Are you saying that large corporations that lobby for smaller government are basically religious institutions?

and they do., the government is mostly defended by conservatives. Do not see to many greenies accountants and lawyers enlisting.

That's not what I meant. The OP seems to suggest only liberals support big government. So could individual citizens not arm themselves to defend the country or do they depend on enlistment in a government-financed military paid for with their tax dollars? I'm not saying I'm opposed to the existence of a military force per se, but rather the hypocritical assertion that conservatives necessarily support smaller government than liberals, when the facts show that it's not that straightforward. It really depends on the brand of conservative or liberal you're comparing. Some conservatives are much more big-government oriented than many liberals. For example, Reagan and Bush increased government spending much more than Clinton had, even though Obama is now spending much more than some past Republicans had. We find similar in Canada. It's not such a black and white issue so as ot simplify it into 'Liberals support big government and conservatives support small government'. It's just that big government conservatives are likely to grow the military, police, prison system, etc. while big government liberals are likely to grow education, etc. In the end, both sides are just in favour of different kinds of big government.

Corps want regulations that allow them to thrive and do not allow their rivals to thrive and if that means bigger goverment they're all for it.
