Why did you choose the computer that you currently have?

Scott, what do you mean by getting XP to out perform Apple? Are you talking about the OS or the hardware?

Apple's are built using x86 cpu's now so any performance difference is minimal at best. Mac's also suck royally when it comes to anything gaming.

About 5-6 years ago I bought the bigest overbuilt computer I could afford at the time. Today
I'm still using the same unit (it suits my needs just fine) and it would be consitered quaint by
today's standards. I run AVG Free 8.0, and Ad-Aware SE Plus, and System Mechanic 6
twice a week and seem so have dodged most bullets so far.

For what I actually use it for, it does what I want with very little fuss and I'm happy with it.
2.8GHz, 512MB (expandanable but I haven't bothered or needed to), 80GB. That's all.

Both and it wasn't much of a challenge for the reasons you state. The hard part was paring the OS down. I have an install that comes in at under 600 mb. Super stable and super fast.
