And I have agreed with most of these.

The only part I have never agreed with is that we are a police state. Ask Jay if that how he saw it when he was here, and New York City has been on Orange "alert" since September 11th.

They can try all they want, I have too much faith in the American people to allow it, and when I say American people, I mean everybody who lives here.

Trashing the Constitution.

I don't see it. Nothing has changed in my life. My freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, religion, etc etc are all in tact.

Cops aren't pulling me over and asking for documents for no reason. No body has shown up at my door step in the middle of the night to wisk me away or harrass me.

I know one thing mrmom, when you speak of all these things its because you like America and what it stands for and you hate what Bush is doing. So fire away, we need other voices.

And when I speak of anti-American sentiment in Canada, it is because I am trying to understand it and fight it. Our kids need to get along, the world is going ot be a very harsh place soon me thinks :(

But many are fighting it, do you think many of us are rasing are children to hate others? It may only be a drop in the bucket, but every drop counts.

Of course parents wouldn't do that. We need alot of educating to do, on both sides of the border.

Yeah, BUT, try going to a private University in the States. OUCH 8O

Average is $30,000 USD annually. Public is cheap though.

Back in the days of the CBC Forum I read a posting from a guy that stated... it was awhile ago so I hope I get the story right.... that an Canadian was being harrassed in Saudi by a group of men as they thought he was American. He said he was Canadian and they let him go. Then we got to the Canadian rumor of Americans wearing Canadian flags abroad so they won't get messed with. Then a Canadian fellow spoke out along the lines.

"How dare they do that. If I saw an American saying he's Canadian to get out of a jam I would go right up to them and tell them he's an American."

I was sort of stunned that the hatred ran so deep. But one Canadian fellow responded

"Would you want him (the American) dead or just beaten senseless? Just curious."

There was no need to respond after that reply.

I was stunned to see Americans hate Canadians so much.

Funny you say that. The reason I started coming to the CBC board and then on to this was when my bro forwarded me an article about that politician that made the "Americans... I hate those bastards" comment. So I started reading the posts and I was stunned. Believe me, Canada bashing is not a national past time here.

Believe it or not... my Grandparents are from Newfoundland and I have many relatives kicking around up north. I have a cousin from Ottawa who is about my age and I used to be on her email list when she sent out funny stuff to her friends. She took me off of it after the winter olympics a few years back when I happen to get their rants and raves about the Canadian Hockey team. They did not like me responding to their anti-us poems in a negative manner.

Oh well... no more funny Canada stuff from my cousins anymore.

I totally agree with you. Our colleges are incredible. Send him down for the best education you can get.

We have a university called Harvard here in Boston. I hear they're pretty good.

Its kind of funny some of the ways Canadians hate Americans and including Bush. For example they make tones of examples out of how the Republicans are all about tax cuts for the corporations. Yet here in Canada both the Liberals, Bloc, and Conservatives agree that it is good fiscal policy.

Just FYI Eaglesmack. Colleges in Canada are not considered the same as we do here. A college in Canada is more along the lines of a 2 year community College in the States, whereas a College in the States is just a University not being able to offer a PhD.

Got you ITN. I did know the difference between a college and university. I was just saying that in general of secondary education in the US. Colleges and Universities as a whole.

RE: Why anti-Americanism

Thats all well and good leftcoast, but anti-Americanism trancends Washington politics, especially in Canada, its part of being who you are as Canadians.

Um, actually I think you will find that the vast majority of "anti-americanism" nowadays is actually "anti-Bushism" carried to an extreme degree and misdirected at the innocent American public. It has EVERYTHING to do with the current poltics of the Bush adminstration and it's supporters.

I am anti-Bush, I do not consider myself to be anti-American. There is a difference, unfortuntely in the US in this day and age many seem to have forgotten that is possible to despise the President without despising the American people as a whole.
