meh My opinion is that if people can afford to, they should supply their own means of familial maintenance rather than leeching off the public. It is welfare for the wealthy, IMO.

If it wasn't for his promise, Anna I would say you are 50% right. There's jobs and positions where the entire pay isn't found in the pay cheque and I could accept that his pay consists of $X plus $Y worth of perks. Given he is P.M. of Canada, maybe $300 grand in wages isn't extravagant. (How much does a good defense lawyer earn?)

 He has perks cuz tradition.
Perk or not, it is still welfare for the wealthy. I am sure that people in soup kitchens can appreciate that the wealthy get perks like that.

Yeah, but most people in soup kitchens aren't responsible for 35 million people. :) :) We don't want to get overwhelmed with semantics!

As much as your labor factors are hell yes you should pay for his nanny ,,not only that, you should also buy his groceries.

Well, when you consider loggers and miners in camps get their grub paid for, I'm inclined to agree!

Minors & Loggers in camps are in camps....& don't get to
go home to eat while in those camps. I'm assuming the PM
isn't buy'n groceries when he's traveling and cooking in his
hotel room, but eating out on the taxpayers dime, and rightfully
so.

His groceries (at home) should be his own cost. Miners and
Loggers, at home, aren't getting their groceries paid for.

Well, if it were me, I would likely take the perk and hand it over to the soup kitchens. Other perks as well, most likely as it would bother me that I could afford to hire nannies out of my own pocket. But politicians being politicians and selfish jacka$$es being what they are .........

The Trudeaus probably will not pay for their grub even if on holidays.

and they are not making a third million a year either.

I would bet a lot of people survive just on the cost of the perks of the office. Either way, it is still welfare for the wealthy.

I wouldn't mind trying to struggle along on his perks.:) (How many paid plane rides a year?) :) I
