Who let this guy in?

Attaboy.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday referred to Israel as “a terrorist state,” a remark that the Obama administration has yet to challenge.

“Israel is a terrorist state,” Erdogan said at an Islamic conference in Istanbul. He also accused Western nations of ignoring the “sufferings of Muslims in Palestine, Syria and Myanmar because of lack of oil.”

For its part, the White House has chosen silence as its response to Erdogan’s intensely anti-Israel rhetoric, a policy that the Associated Press’ Matt Lee seems to think does more harm than good.

“How do you — this whole thing of saying nothing, I’m not sure I understand why you think that that’s helpful to the situation. You say that it would not be helpful for you to discuss any of your conversations, that quiet diplomacy is the way to de-escalate that. Well, you’ve been doing your quiet diplomacy now for almost a week. How’s it going so far?” Lee asked State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland during Monday’s press briefing.

We are working hard with the parties. We’re working hard with –” she began to reply.

Hasn’t it occurred to anybody that maybe being less quiet might get more results, though? Squeaky wheel gets grease, that kind of thing?”

I’ll let the –”

You’re being silent while people are dying left and right.”

Matt, we are being far from silent. The President has –”

You’re not telling us anything about what you’re – when the Turks come out – when the leaders of Turkey come out and say that Israel is engaged in acts of terrorism and you refuse to say that you don’t agree with that – or maybe you do agree with it – that’s being silent.”

The Turkish PM is and was behind support for the Gaza Flotilla where people got killed. And he along with Egypt are both necessary to bring about a ceasefire and possibly lifting the blockade.

So what is gained by crapping on him. Squat.

If you are the Superpower that operates in the Middle East both sides are looking for results.
If you go about shooting off your mouth in public you run the risk of both sides ignoring you,
then you are no longer relevant. America is following the right course and yes people will die
in a war zone. It is sad but it is also true. It is time people quit looking for faults in a crisis
situation, rather than looking at the serious problem facing the diplomats working on the ground.
Solutions in these situations must be win/win or worse will come out of it.

The United States of America recognized Israel in 1948 and virtually every administration has
supported that position Democrat and Republicans alike. All the successes and failures are a
collective effort by the American Institution of Government. You cannot blame Obama anymore
or less than Bush or Reagan for that matter.

The Middle East is a very complicated ball of tangled wool that will take many years to iron out
and that is simply fact. Yes Israel is an aggressor at times and they take the bait by responding
to missiles being fired into downtown streets. Suppose America was doing that to us would we
no respond? Forget the nonsense that Israel should not exist, because they do and they are in
fact recognized by most of the world. Solutions have to be found and shouting and screaming
derogatory names at one another will not lead to solutions. Oh and for those pointing out its Obamas
fault, Romney would be engaged in the same activity the administration is because that is how
diplomacy is managed around the world.
