If only the NHL would or could. High school hockey or college hockey is much more entertaining.

I like OHL. First time I really got into hockey and cheered my fool head off in years was at the Sudbury Arena howling for the Wolves. They missed out on the title by one game - in of all places, Plymouth Michigan!

Yeah, that should put some beans on the table.....and a bit more. I wonder what Vancouver offered?
Not sure, but i'm guessing, nothing, as we have so many defence, at least, at that time,

I thought Vancouver needed a couple good defencemen and a quality player to play with the Sedine twins. That would give us two good lines. They will have to have some good luck with there rookies if the hope to get past the first round of the play-offs.

Well, all really good players at one time were rookies, and they weren't all high draft picks, so I''m
looking for something pretty good to come from these young guys who are fighting for a spot on the
team. I like the idea of developing from within, as Nonis would have had to give away too many
young prospects during the summer for some 'so called' high scoring forward, and there no guarantees that would work either. And, we didn't have any money 'within the cap' to pay a free agent, but next year when Naslund and Morrison are free agents, Nonis will have lots of money to throw around, and I'm sure it won't 'all' be going Naslund and Morrison's way, and free agents, who are worth their salt, will see Vancouver as a good team to play on, as with Luongo, and a great management, and a solid team, they can see a possible Stanley cup run.

Yeah, your right, time will tell. Keep your eye on L.A., as I mentioned last year that, LA will be a
very strong team this year, some great young players, and now a 19 yr old rookie goalie who played
great today in London to get them two points against Anaheim, good for them, as I love to watch
Anaheim lose.

I love this time of the year, as the rain is flying, the wind is blowing, but HOCKEY is here to light
all those dark dreary nights.

Glad to see some discussion of NHL. While we're at it, can someone explain why there is virtually no talk of lacrosse (Canada's # 1 Summer sport) during the season on CC?

I don't know where this myth started about Lacrosse but I'll bet there are a lot of people in Canada who have never seen a lacrosse game....or maybe seen one or two. Lacrosse is a rough, and rugged game. I played when I was a lot younger and I never played a game where I didn't end up with a lot of bruises. I would say soccer or baseball is the #1 summer sport.

Juan's right. Aside from a couple of hotbeds in around Ontario and BC in the summer, I don't think a lot of people in this country have seen this sport.

For one example, I think it was last season that the sports' winter league the NLL, the National Lacrosse League for short, had just reached its' 1,000,000th fan. The league is a combination of both USA and Canadian teams. Now, I know it shows that that certain league is growing, but it just shows that a lot of people just don't watch it.

... and yet, I have seen articles which say the precise opposite. Canada, led by Gary Gait who is the game's GREATEST player/coach of all time, won the world championship this summer. Every article written on the topic said that the reason for that is because of the sport's popularity in the Northlands.

I have to agree. While they do show lacrosse on television from time to time, it is still baseball that gets watched. For me, I enjoy watching the Blue Jays play(but they better start hitting more next year!).

Yeah, I remember when lacrosse was really big in the west and the east, and it still is played all over the place, although not really popular like hockey, but it is a great game, very fast and rough and
good to watch. Don't know why it doesn't get more viewers, maybe because hockey is 'similar' and
just blocks it out too much.

Canada has done very well in international soccer both at the men's and women's levels. Perhaps this may account for why lacrosse is not as popular as it used to be.

Hockey ... part of our heritage. I have a friend who calls from the Mackenzie River Ice Highway just so he can listen to the Leafs on his cell phone. All he gets on the truck radio are Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver ... but Toronto will be playing on satellite TV at base.

Company called him out on the carpet about the cell bill.

"What's cheaper..." he says to the boss "...the Leafs game - or the truck?"

Devotion, eh?

Tell your friend to get a satelite radio it'd be way cheaper
