Where have you gone, Oh Canadian Winter?

I wish I could see it! We have a measly couple inches on the ground here. You can still see grass for pete's sake.
Winter seems to be alive and well in Nanaimo B.C.. It is currently snowing like hell and we have about six inches so far. I have lived in Edmonton and I recognize this weather. It is Edmonton weather and I wish it would go back where it came from. Our normal winter weather is more akin to biblical rain.....Forty days and forty nights......twice......or more. .......Not this stuff you have to shovel...
The snow must be heavier when it falls in Nanaimo though compared to Edmonton? Maritime snow is like shoveling liquid water, a bucket would be as handy as a shovel. I couldn't put a number to how many shovels have bent or snapped in my hands...
You got that right Tonington. The last snow we had was about eight inches and then it rained for a while. The rain turned it into about five inches but it was a back-breaker to shovel. The three foot wide snow shovel full weighed close to sixty pounds.
Oh god the horror, the memory of White Juan...not Juan of Nanaimo for those wondering:smile:
Hey. If we left the snow alone, the rain would eventually wash it away in a day or two or three.......The thing is we have to get the car out to go to the store etc. On the other hand.....We need something to bitch about, and the snow provides that......:roll::lol:
Er, handing out bibles [as you know, apparently its "expensive" to buy bible in Mexico because they don't have money], doing ministry, etc.
Most of time, we spent fixing, painting, and building washroom and the entire house for the orphans who we stayed with for three days. They were living under pretty amazing house I must say...
Everyone seem to have their own bed and a space for privacy [like closet lol]. I couldn't believe it at first that this was an orphanage...but I asked our guide and she said some rich woman recently [like a year ago] donated the house to them. Pretty amazing story...when most of government-funded orphanage are..*cough*

I used to take my kid to a play group run by South African 'missionaries' in High Level Nugg. lol. Anja would watch the kids so that the moms could take a break, go for coffee, or hit the gym for a bit. Their mission was bringing the word of God to the heathen north... lol. They started bible study groups, religious sing alongs, suppers, camping trips, all sorts of things to try to attract people to the bible. It seems you can call just about anything you do 'missionary' work if you add a few bible quotes to it. ;-)
But in all seriousness YJK, it's very good of you to go down and help build and paint and such.
