Chinese village headman living in cave for 2yrs to construct road
China National News

(ANI)

New Delhi, July 21 : A Chinese village headman has been living in a cave for two years in an effort to get a road linking the village to the outside world constructed.

Yang Baolin, 49, deputy director of villagers' committee of Shuping village, an area in Zhen'an County, Shaanxi province, surrounded by hills, decided to build a 15-km road connecting the village with the main highway, reports the China Daily.

In 2007, Yang moved into a cave near the under-construction road so that he wouldn't have to travel a long distance to get to work everyday.

Yang and his team of villagers are still toiling hard to build the road, which they say has hit a roadblock due to shortage of funds.

Man, that's dedication.

Yeah, I guess it takes a massive effort in China at times to get things done. The definition of obtuse bureaucracy.

The definition of obtuse bureaucracy -not really .China is a big country and there is "allot" to be done .The Government concentrates on "big things" ,big cities, big projects not a "15 km. village road".
But that's not the point of the post . What I admire is the Chinese taking care of them self without bitching complaining or relying on the gov.Something has to be done ,they'll do it.

bureaucracy saves lives

NOt always. Look at Walkerton. They let government employees look after their drinking water and it killed some of them. In the US when New Orleans flooded the bureaucrats responsible to provide assistance were at home for the weekend and did nothing since we all know that a disaster MUST only happen when government offices are open. Bureaucrats have also permitted the sale of many drugs that are harmful because someone paid them to do so.

I admire the determination of the villagers. If we had more of that kind of spirit still in Canada instead of depending on some government a lot more would get done.
