Trump's UN Speech
Actually it was quite a good speech by Trump on the topic on nationalism.. economic, cultural, governmental, strategic. Drew some laughter, presented as mocking by the Liberal press, but when it comes down to it all these nation states see populist, nationalist movements snapping at their heels in their own countries. The world is simply moving into a different geopolitical space than it occupied for the last 70 years. So i would characterise the laughter as nervous rather than mocking.
I noticed he used the word 'socialism' when describing the regime in Venezuela which i thought unfortunate since it has become the second most overused and least understood word in the English language. Right behind 'irony'. Venezuela is attempting some form of popular anarchism rather than doctrinaire socialism. Neither work, but socialism does not mean dirigism, nationalism, populism, progressivism (equitable sharing of wealth) which necessitates public invenstment, direction and ownership in natural monopolies. That, in economic terms, is the only route for nation states to extricate itself from their current dilemma and decline.
