Not according to the Ukrainian people. They want the Russia coup installed Govt gone.

Same goes for the people of Belarus.

They've had enough of Russia too.

I honestly believe the the Ukraine is much more closely alligned culturally to Russia and the Slavic Republics than to Western Europe.. which makes it much different than Poland, which is clearly oriented to the West.

The protesters think that they are alligning themselves with prosperity and democracy in the EU, but this is very short-sighted. The EU has been a complete failure.. especially in the monetary union of the Euro Zone.. and lurches from crisis to crisis. Look at Spain, Ireland or Greece (all in Depressions).. that is more likely to be the Ukraine's destiny rather than Germany.

They'd be well advised to let the forces that are dismantling the EU play out, rather than tie themselves to vortex of instability, like that nitwit Stephen Harper did with Canada and his Free Trade deal with the EU.

The eastern half of Ukraine is Orthodox and Russofied. The western half of Ukraine is a version of Catholic and oriented toward the West. That is the basis of the ongoing struggle.

There are serious problems for the region here as the Ukraine must find its own way
after years if not decades of outside domination. The only way for the country to find
any measure of progress is to seek its own solutions and make its own friends and
that does not include Russia.
What concerns me even more is the Orthadox Christians active in Ukraine and Russia
are more like fascists they are hard line right wing folks. Russia is not a communist
country its gone from Communism, to a form of demorcratic revival to Fascism in the
space of two decades.

As i undertand it about 2/3 of the religious demographic is Orthodox, with about 1/9 being alligned with Catholicism or Protestanism.. but this only within the 1/3 that profess any religious faith... 2/3 of the country as a whole declares itself to be atheist.. a legacy of the 75 years of Communist rule.

But even so, the religious character, whether professed or not, is a major determinant in ALL societies of its cultural norms, which in the Ukraine still draws very much to the Orthodox, Oriental sphere of Russia.

Well then if that is the case why is the west funding the anti-government actions and protests, from what I have read those protests are not of local manufacture and we are simply looking at the same old CIA funded and organized colour revolutions. The best deal is the Russian one the west offers crushing IMF imposed austerity and eventual economic rape. If they join the west they sink with it.
