Heaven forbid somebody denies man-made global warming.

I think it was more of the bizarre comments (anti-gay, anti-nonwhite, etc.) from the Wildrose canidates which probably did it.

I'm still trying to decide myself whether it's more likely Alberta doesn't believe in global warming or gays and blacks.

Forgot the OP. mistakes they made:
,,,religious fervour.................should have left it at home.

Agreed. Alberta is very much in the norm with the rest of Canada in terms of the religious views of most of the populace. A lot of hard core fundamentalists seem to forget Jesus preached acceptance...

,,,anti gay.............surprised this did not fly in Alta. but it didn't .

Albertans aren't really any less accepting of gays than anyone else. Most live by a "don't tell me about it, I don't need to know about it" creed, which in while it could be termed willful ignorance, comes in handy with ignoring potentially uncomfortable subjects... especially those that aren't their business.

,,,attack dog mode at all times. People can see Baird in Ottawa and probably don't need it at a provincial
level

Well most Albertans aren't as likely to see Baird in that light as much as they see opposition MPs that way, but the confrontational nature of current politics doesn't win any fans.

,,,questioning climate change and evolution..........surprised this didn't fly also.

Climate change isn't something most Albertans buy into because of the lack of correlation between theory and the models available, but there is a very large segment of the populace that is highly educated in scientific and technological disciplines (that thar oil don't come out by isself!) that think the arguments against evolution are studpidity. The idea that the Wildrose stance on climate change was an achilles heel in Alberta is laughable.

,,,actually allowing Smith to speak.............OMG...........give her the script for christs sake.
She comes across as a stupid person, with a large streak of mean. Little intelligence in her eyes. Glancing up and down at the cameras as if looking for approval. She would do well as a Harpoite MP

You really need to get over the personalizing and demonizing everyone you don't agree with. I'm not fond of Smith OR Premier Redford but that doesn't necessarily make them stupid or mean... and sorry but there have been worse PM's than Harper too...

Addendum: A couple of my uncles went West as pipefitters/steamfitters way back when. Took along their wives and kids and made a great life for themselves in the Calgary area.

They were hard working, not dogmatically religious,. but above all: they were fair minded, honest, people, as were their kids and grandkids..

They might support the old time Progressive Conservatives, but never the ultra right tea party idiots we see running around in the US, and more and more in Canada. From the results of the latest Alta. election, there's a lot like me old family living out there. Good thing.

Thats pretty much the story of most Albertans: fairminded, honest and hard working. We don't like be told what to do and we generally don't want to stick their noses in everyone else's business (we draw the line when it costs us money :p ).

What? Ever hear of the Bamster, Hitler, Rene Levesque, Bob Rae, Bill Van Der Zalm, Jesse Ventura, Hugo Chavez, George Washington? All were elected in a democracy. All are or were radicals.

Not quite Walter. Obama isn't really anyone's idea of a radical: if he was to run in Canada on his platform, he'd be a Conservative because he is not far left enough for the Liberals or NDP.

I'm still trying to decide myself whether it's more likely Alberta doesn't believe in global warming or gays and blacks.

Thats because you're clueless.
