What a thought provoking question. What is God? For many God is a mere concept, a human construct to help us cope with our lack of control over the world. For some God is a weapon with which to threaten others, to control their behavior. God sometimes serves as a pacifier, keeping fear and discomfort at bay with promises of warmth and care. Peaceful, vengeful, kind and cruel. Fatherly and distant, all knowing yet not caring to interfere.... humankind has attributed almost every trait imaginable to its assorted notions of God, or gods.
Ultimately though, god is a personal thing. No one can know the god someone else knows. Each individual brings their own light, their own expression, their own impressions and ideas to the construction of God. Because as far as I've been able to make out from all of my own religious experience and personal introspection on the issue, God is not a person. God is people. The energy that links all of humanity, the earth, the plants and the animals. Each and every individual projects into that energy their own personal impression, and as such, it seems to them to be exactly what they want to feel and see.
There is no higher truth.... no explanation I could give you. No 'answer'. But I suspect you know that.

and a handbook ruins the concept, what god is will I think remain beyond words and definition but always in the mind, you can accept god you know without accepting religion, so I'v lately made a compromise that satisfies my primitive desire to be hugged and coddled, god is very powerful and builds planets and suns and flowers her name is ah--------I forget, but once I knew a long long time ago what it was but that was in the beginning which we may not have had.
