I'm sorry ITN. I can't comment. My britishness won't allow me too.....

You really need to go and visit Victoria. BC. ITN. then you'll see some of the most english things outside of England...

And if you go....you have to go to the Empress Hotel and have tea. It's brillant.!

PEI...for now
I know not a thing about being British. However I did go out with a British girl for awhile. I think that was the extent of my britishness.

I have visited Victoria, BC. I just commented on that the other day on this board, of course all of BC I found spectacular, but Victoria, even the people seemed to have a very slight British accent. Very slight. But very beautiful city.

Really? You think Victorians have a slight british sounding accent? wow. I had no idea.

did you go to or by the Empress Hotel? My Suki use to take me for tea there when I was really little. I loved the pastel mints. Still do. Remind me of going for tea. Oh and finger sandwhiches. What kid doesn't like crustless sandwhiches?

You can't claim Americans are flag waving patriotic idiots and actually believe Americans sew the Canadian flag on their backpacks. I have never heard or seen anything of the sort.

And yes, you are likeable.

hmm. well, you won't IN the US. Check out Europe , when Americans travel. Europe sees this all the time. When I was in England , saw it often. Have friends in Scotland,Italy, Sweden , Switzerland etc and they say the same thing.

Have a friend in NYC ......and she says she does it all the time when she travels abroad. and says there is a significant difference in how she is treated.

Sorry, I'm not calling you a liar, but I need proof of that. Its simple really, you can't be flag waving idiots and do that. You also can't be an obnoxious and arrogant bunch and do that. The perception can be either or, it doesn't make sense.

Don't you think Fox News would of been screaming, TRAITORS!!!, by now? I think so.

idiots??? heck no.

flag waving?? sure. But mostly IN the US. Don't think many Americans are waving the US flag abroad now. Mind you , it depends on where they go. Plus many are a lot more careful in their conduct now when they travel. as they are reluctant to draw attention to themselves.

things have changed. mind you , it could be a phase that the world is going through......and eventually , it wil balance out again.

Hey now at the height of the war on Iran, there were many an article posted about americans carrying some small small token of Canadianisim. Not necessariily waving flags but carrying a pin or sticker or such.
I have done recruitment for many a middle east country and I have to say, the general consensous was they liked Canadians over Americans. Heck of a broad generalization that I don't generally support cause I could have sent them Paul Bernardo ahahahaha But the fact of the matter is, they made no bones about it, American citizens have to be careful, they are not as widely favored as they used to be.

second: yes, Americans have relied on the Canadian "identity" before. Things are a tad worse now for Americans.

In a way, it is quite interesting that CA is providing Americans with "security " as they traverse abroad.

One "could" say, that a Canadian pin, flag is mightier than a missle . ......as far as personal security goes. So who says that CA is not playing an active role in the security issue ??? :wink:

and yes, they have to be a LOT more cautious now. .

Most Yanks do not believe that there is anything like a "Canadian culture". Canada is regarded as nothing more than a land of ice, snow, bad weather, and a bunch of scavengers who come to the States in order to take our jobs. Of course, Canada exports as many jobs as it gets from the USA but that is not generally known here.

Here's something that some Yanks can relate to --- tales of the old Northwest :D :

Major League Lacrosse played its Championship game today in Boston's Nickerson Field (Boston University) in front of a highly enthused crowd.

Long Island: 9
Baltimore:: 15

The game's MVP was British Columbia native Gary Gait who, in my opinion, is the greatest player in Lax history. He scored 6 goals and was ably assisted by fellow BC native Tom Marechek. Both are former students of Syracuse University and they comprised a big part of the famous 1990 team that was the greatest in NCAA history (ironically, the league stole their championship because of a minor infraction). Another former 'Cuse player Mike Powell also scored for Baltimore.

For me, I will always have to define Canadian culture as being the source for some of the greatest athletes in the world. Today's game makes that point quite well.

~~~ BTW ~~~ I also watched the Honda Indy 225 IRL race and that auto series has always featured a handful of great Canadian racers.
