The trouble is though, the whole entrenched bureaucratic system is basically on the verge of fubar and so wound up with special interests that it might not matter about the party.

They are in power because of Trump, abandoning him would be cutting their own income so that won't be happening. Greed rather than loyalty to the people is what drives all politicians, no matter what country they are from.

I don't know why anyone thinks Trump is not what the Republicans have been looking for.

Yes he's brash and clumsy and has argued publicly with a few of them but he's all in favour of accomplishing what they want.

I am listening to a 'leftish' radio station out of Chicago and the host just said that a poll taken found 83% of Repub Congressman support him....
