"Big", with Tom Hanks, has just started on the telly. The family's in the living room watching it.

We've just had our Christmas dinner (it's 4.15pm here). Me, my sister and brother had a game of Scrabble just before that (my sister won with 144 points and I finished third with 74 points) and we also played some games, including Space Invaders and Centipede, from the Atari with 75 classic Golden Oldie games built into that that I got for Christmas.

I like Scrabble. But I don't play it that often. The last time I played it before today was last Christmas. I watch Countdown a lot, though (especially since Rachel Riley replaced Carol Vorderman).

Wonders of the Solar System

Episode 1

Empire of the Sun

In the first episode of his acclaimed 2010 science series, University of Manchester physicist Professor Brian Cox illustrates how the formation and behaviour of the Sun affects each planet in the Solar System.

In India he witnesses a total solar eclipse - when the link to the light and heat that sustains us is cut off for a few precious minutes.

But heat and light are not the only power of the sun over the solar system. In Norway, Brian watches the battle between the sun's wind and earth, as the night sky glows with the northern lights.

Beyond earth, the solar wind continues, creating dazzling aurora on other planets. Brian makes contact with Voyager, a probe that has been travelling since its launch 30 years ago. Now 14 billion kilometres away, Voyager has just detected the solar wind is beginning to peter out. But even here we haven't reached the end of the sun's rule.

Brian explains how its greatest power, gravity, reaches out for hundreds of billions of kilometres, where the lightest gravitational touch encircles our solar system in a mysterious cloud of comets.

Wonders of the Solar System

Episode 2

Order out of Chaos

Professor Brian Cox visits some of the most stunning locations on earth to describe how the laws of nature have carved natural wonders across the solar system.

Brian reveals how beauty and order in earth's cosmic backyard was formed from nothing more than a chaotic cloud of gas. Chasing tornados in Oklahoma, he explains how the same physics that creates these spinning storms shaped the young solar system. Out of this celestial maelstrom emerged the jewel in the crown, Brian's second wonder - the magnificent rings of Saturn.

On an ice-choked lagoon in Iceland, he sees the nearest thing on earth to Saturn's rings. Using the latest scientific imagery and breathtaking graphics, he explains how the intricate patterns round Saturn are shaped by the cluster of more than 60 moons surrounding the planet.

One of those moons makes a spectacular contribution to the rings and is the third wonder of the solar system. Brian describes the astonishing discovery of giant fountains of ice erupting from the surface of Enceladus, which soar thousands of miles into space.

Episode 3

The Thin Blue Line

Professor Brian Cox reveals how something as flimsy as an envelope of gas - an atmosphere - can create some of the most wondrous sights in the solar system. He takes a ride in an English Electric Lightning and flies 11 miles up to the top of earth's atmosphere, where he sees the darkness of space above and the thin blue line of our atmosphere below.

In the Namib desert in south-west Africa, he tells the story of Mercury. This tiny planet was stripped naked of its early atmosphere and is fully exposed to the ferocity of space.

Against the stunning backdrop of the glaciers of Alaska, Brian reveals his fourth wonder: Saturn's moon Titan, shrouded by a murky, thick atmosphere. He reveals that below the clouds lies a magical world. Titan is the only place beyond earth where we've found liquid pooling on the surface in vast lakes, as big as the Caspian Sea, but the lakes of Titan are filled with a mysterious liquid, and are quite unlike anything on earth.

Four-part series following some of the most famous society families in Britain and Europe - the Rothschilds, the Shaftesburys, the Marlboroughs of Blenheim and the March family of Goodwood. Historically these families were a ruling elite, enjoying power and privilege based on centuries of inherited wealth and grand landed estates. Today, though their political influence may have waned, the descendants still own large chunks of land, live in fascinating historic buildings, own millions of pounds worth of art and antiques and continue to inhabit a world where succession is of paramount importance, with sometimes toxic results. From the savvy aristocrat working his assets to the full, to the young Earl struggling to order his family's affairs, the program follows the highs and lows of being a member of the aristocracy in the 21st century.

just watched Super Cross and wondered why James Stewart wasn't in the running or in the Top 20

here's why:

Supercross: FIM Punishes James Stewart - Cycle News

It appears that James Stewart will not compete in either the 2015 AMA Supercross or outdoor National MX Series. In a release issued by his Yoshimura Suzuki Team, Stewart was notified that he will be punished regarding his anti-doping violation, but did not reveal any specifics of the penalty but said that the FIM’s decision “severely effects the entire 2015 season.” We can only assume at this point, that Stewart has been prohibited from racing all next year by the FIM, which has ties with AMA Supercross and motocross. But, according to our sources, Stewart, will not be racing in 2015.
Here is the official release from Yoshimura Suzuki:
Yoshimura Suzuki Racing is reporting that James Stewart has received notification from the FIM with a penalty regarding his anti-doping violation. The news came eight months to the day from the test at this years' Seattle Supercross event where he tested positive for amphetamines from his prescribed Adderall. The ruling lays out a punishment that severely affects the entire 2015 season for James and the Yoshimura Suzuki team. Suzuki Motor of America and Yoshimura Racing will continue their unwavering support for Stewart during this difficult period and like all the fans hope to see him line up at the gate as soon as his ineligibility is lifted.
“I’m extremely disappointed to say the least,” said Stewart. “We plan to appeal as I personally feel that the punishment far outweighs the situation; especially since I received both WADA and USADA approvals that prove I’m not cheating. I’m bummed for everyone involved: my family, my team, my sponsors, the promoters and most of all the fans. Unfortunately, I’ve had to be very quiet in regards to this situation but I’ll be telling the full story in the next couple weeks so everyone can understand what we’ve been going through. Thank you all for your continued support.”
Yoshimura Suzuki Racing’s James Stewart has announced plans to be at the season-opening round of the 2015 AMA Supercross Championships on Saturday, January 3 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim to support his team, teammate, sponsors and fans.
So, again, at this point, it looks as though Stewart will not be suiting up for Supercross and motocross in 2015.

If his claim is valid, he should go to court right away and have an order issued to void that decision.

To celebrate the fact that 2015 marks the 500th anniversary of Hampton Court Palace, Britain's finest surviving Tudor building, and to mark the upcoming lavish new BBC historical drama Wolf Hall, historians Lucy Worsley and David Starkey recreate the most important event that the building has hosted - the extravagant christening of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour's son Prince Edward, the future King Edward VI, on October 15th 1537.

Britain's Tudor Treasure: A Night at Hampton Court

Lucy Worsley
, the Chief Curator at Historic Royal Palaces, and historian David Starkey celebrate the 500th anniversary of Britain's finest surviving Tudor building, Hampton Court. As Henry VIII's pleasure palace, Hampton Court was a showcase for royal magnificence and ceremony - and the most important event of all was the christening of Henry's long-awaited son, Prince Edward, on October 15th, 1537.

Lucy and David explore how Tudor art, architecture and ritual came together for this momentous occasion. Drawing on historical records and with the help of a team of experts, they recreate key elements of the christening ceremony - including a magnificent set piece procession through Hampton Court involving nearly 100 people in full Tudor costume.

Wilder wins!

First Yank in years to hold the Heavyweight belt. But he needs to behave like a Champ and stop chatting & bragging so much. He ranted too much after the fight and needs to understand that pro boxing has a reputation to uphold. I hope he will see what responsibilities the belt entails and lives up to them.

Great British comedy...

The Ricky Gervais Show

Space Monkey

In this hilarious first-ever episode of The Ricky Gervais Show, the British comedy series in which the record-breaking podcasts by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and the comedy genius Karl Pilkington (who is the real star of the show) have been animated and brought to the screen, the trio discuss the merits of 20th Century inventions. Karl favours a "non-traditional," if impractical, approach to having kids. He also argues that people have "more than six senses"; intimates that cavemen and dinosaurs co-existed; and recalls a story about a pub tankard that killed anyone who touched it. The guys introduce the recurring "Monkey News" segment, in which Karl describes how banana trained monkeys launched and piloted space vehicles before humans.

The Jockey

In "Questions for Karl," the anointed pundit discusses time travel and adult diapers. Stephen reads entries from Karl's hilarious diary - which became a regular feature on the show - which entertain Ricky immensely. In this episode's Monkey News: A 1950s gangster was duped into using a monkey as jockey in an important race!

Gold-rush Alaska. Does the dredge have the ability to swirl and vacum up the bedrock so all specks of gold are picked up. Tony has Parker install heavier was pumps to get the rocks cleaner, you would need that when digging into old tailing piles and since those old dredges worked in water the gold would have washed out and is sitting on bedrock.
Parker did two tests for Tony, one with a smooth bucket and the other left a lot of 'grave'. The next phase should be to use the same devive the diver did a season or two back. 20 minutes and he stopped and buried the hole so there must be a lot of nuggets at the bottom but you need a dragline to go that deep safely. Parker should have to flood those two spots and use a hoe hold the suction end and every inch is clean. Where the smooth bucket used a pump like a vacuum truck would work.
Do those ideas make money of break 'the company'?
