gotta be that gorgeous warm west coast sunshine today..

Probably ... the sunshine here is really quite white, solid and plentiful today. Some people mistake it for fog, but us Islanders know better. ;)

The Evil Empire
The Truth About the Drug Companies:
How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It

by Marcia Angell

My sister, being a biochemist, bought me this book today. She says it's a must read. Time will tell.

I've been procrastinating about a huge textbooky thing I have to read most of for work. I'm reading the first Harry Potter to my five-year-old, Shane to my ten-year-old, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to my mate, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory on the bus and I have Un Dimanche à la piscine de Kigali ready to go when I get time around Xmas.

Gloria Steinem - Outrageous Acts of Everday Rebellions

Said ... if you like Steinem, you may also enjoy Camille Paglia. She has several books/writings like "Sexual Personae: Art and Decadence from Nefertiti to Emily Dickinson". Her brand of feminism is a very different take on the topic from traditional feminist views. I think she's incredible but there are those who find her offensive.

Would be interested in hearing what others think of her stuff.

For a quick peek at her ideology ... check what Wikipedia has to say about her.

I haven't read any of her books in the past, only snippets and articles. I like to the book so far though.

I took a quick peek at the univeristy library and they have "Sexual Personae" which did catch my curiosity. If I remember, I'll look at it more closely, I liked the write up in Wikiipedia.

Thanks for mentioning it!

The First World War by John Keegan

Keegan is good. I have Soldiers, and also his study of Agincourt, Waterloo, and the Somme. I forget the title.

Currently I'm into Franklin and Winston: An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship.

It is a truely great read, especially for anyone interested in Winston.

Highly recommended.
