The Cranberries - "Zombie" (1994)

Hailing from the Republic of Ireland, the Cranberries achieved a huge British hit with this song about the Troubles, the British civil conflict between those who wanted Northern Ireland to be part of the Republic of Ireland and those who wanted it to remain in the United Kingdom.

In this song the band urges those on both sides of the conflict in their neighbouring nation to stop the violence and killing against each other.

Four years later the conflict ended with the 1998 Good Friday Agreement and Northern Ireland remains in the UK.
