Erasure - "Lay All Your Love On Me" (1992)

The British electro-poppers brought out the sounds of the era's video games as they covered the Swedish band ABBA's 1981 hit

Papa Roach - "Blood Brothers" (2000)

A guy with tattoos on his face played this song today in the warehouse very loudly.

Hailing from Vacaville, California, this is Papa Roach's anti-war song...

Bowling For Soup - "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" (2002)

As someone who's just turned 43 last week, this takes me back to my rocker/punk youth: A hit from the Texan punk band.

The late 90s and early Noughties were the best...

Mushroomhead - "Fall In Line" (2024)

The newest single from the Cleveland, Ohio, heavy metal band.

Fun fact I've just remembered: Ohio is the only US state with a non-rectangular flag.

My Burmese friend and former work colleague performed this song today on his guitar. I think he's pretty good.

We're thinking of starting a band.

Rick Sabbath - "Never Gonna Give You Up"

What happens if you get Birmingham heavy metal inventors Black Sabbath to perform Lancashire lad Rick Astley's famous 1987 hit?

The Darkness - "Get Your Hands off My Woman" (2003)

The Suffolk glam rockers scored a Top 50 UK hit with this in the year British police used tasers for the first time and 34 people were injured after a London Underground train crashed at Chancery Lane Station.

Lead singer Justin Hawkins now has his own YouTube channel on the subject of music.

The band got its name from drummer Ed Graham's teenage bleak moods, which were known as "the darkness."

Billy Idol - "Rebel Yell" (1983)

Back in the days when we somehow made better music than we do today, London punk rocker Billy Idol achieved a worldwide hit with this

Red Dwarf - "Tongue Tied" (1988)

When you're one of the last three survivors after a disaster onboard your intergalactic mining ship killed everybody else and you're drifting in space with no hope for help and no hope of returning to Earth - AND you find you're somehow 3 million years in the future - what do you and your two surviving buddies do to raise morale in such a depressing situation? They do this. Typical of the Brits to find humour in a shitty situation. From the long-running British comedy sci-fi Red Dwarf.

Kate Bush - "Wuthering Heights" (1978)

Almost exactly the same age as my mother, a 19 year old Kate Bush scored a major No1 with this song based on Emily Brontë's 1847 novel of the same name.

Bush became the the first female to reach UK No1 with a song she wrote and she was just a teenager when she wrote it.

This song has become like Marmite in the 46 years since its release: You either love it or hate it.

The video was filmed on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, where British soldiers train...

Toy Dolls - "Nellie the Elephant" (1985)

The Sunderland punk band had a Top 5 UK hit with this in the year Vodaphone becomes Britain's first mobile phone network, 58 football fans are killed in the Bradford City stadium fire and the country's iconic red telephone boxes start to be phased out. Vodaphone is still going - I'm posting this on my phone with Vodaphone.

This song by Toy Dolls is well known amongst British schoolchildren.

A Flock of Seagulls - "Some Dreams" (2024)

The Liverpool New Wave band had a string of hits in the 1980s. Now - much older - they are back with a new single and also a new album to be released in 2025.
