The Northern Boys - "Robot Man" (2024)

The geriatric Liverpool hip hoppers - two of whom are former teachers - are back.

Don't listen if you are an easily offended snowflake as this is not the type of stuff for you.

Limp Bizkit - "Nobody Like You"
(1999)

The Florida nu-metallers made this song in 1999. Remember the 90s? They were better than today, weren't they? Happier and more carefree. And we know who is to blame for our quality of life going down, don't we?

David Brent - "Gypsy Lady" (2016)

David Brent was the manager of paper merchants Wernham Hogg in Slough, Berkshire. In his mundane day to day life of being a boss in an office he dreamed of being a music star. He finally got what he wanted with this hit.

In reality, of course, it's just actor and comedian Ricky Gervais (who WAS in a pop band in the Eighties) playing his character from The Office, which he co-wrote and directed. He also wrote this song.

The Office was later copied by the Americans: because they love British humour.

Fine Young Cannibals - "Suspicious Minds" (1986)

The Birmingham pop rockers turned the clock back 20 years to look like a Sixties band as they covered Elvis Presley's 1969 hit...

Pulp - "Common People" (1995)

The Sheffield alt-rockers reached No2 in the UK charts in the year John Redwood failed in his "coup" to usurp John Major as British Prime Minister and Manchester United's Eric Cantona physically assaults a Crystal Palace fan during a Premier League game.

All five members of the band co-wrote the song.

Aqua - "Candyman" (1997)

The Danish dance-poppers scored a cheesy Top 10 UK hit in the year Blair became the first Labour PM for 18 years and Princess Diana died.

Denmark famously won Euro 92, despite not even qualifying for it.

Suede - "The Beautiful Ones"

(1996)

The London rockers scored a big hit with this in 1996:

In this year: Terry Venables resigns as England manager after Gareth Southgate's missed penalty against Germany in the Semi-Final of Euro 96 knocks England out. Southgate is now the current England manager.

An IRA bomb kills a man on a bus in London.

The British become the first to clone a mammal: Dolly the sheep.

The British inventor of the jet engine - Frank Whittle - dies.

The brother of a member of Suede is famous for being the creator and co-host of the hugely popular British gameshow Pointless.
