In 1995, John Redwood attempted to become British Prime Minister by taking over from John Major as the leader of the Conservative Party. In a party vote, Redwood was trounced by 218 votes to 89. That year also saw this song by Liverpool Britpoppers Cast reach No13 in the UK Singles Chart:

In 1995, the use of the internet increased, with 1% of the UK population (600,000 people) now having internet access. The year also saw the famous Battle of Britpop, with Blur's "Country House", and "Roll with It" by their arch-rivals Oasis, battling each other for chart success, with Blur seen as representing the South of England and Oasis seen as representing the North of England. "Country House" won the battle, gaining No1 spot on the UK Singles Chart, with "Roll with It" getting to No2.

In 1995, the Queen Mother had a hip replacement operation. At 95, she is believed to be the oldest patient to undergo such surgery. In September of that year, Sheffield Britpoppers Pulp scored their second successive UK No2 hit of the year with this song:

This morning as I took a Sunday drive I was listening to ,,in my opinion, probably the best female singer in the world, Celene Dion. The song was "Because you loved Me'. Yeah. kinda sappy but now and then I am. I apply the lyrics sometimes to my daughters, and sometime another one or two. I think it may be my favorite song these days.
