Bell Mobility went ahead Friday with its plan to begin charging some customers for incoming text messages, despite mounting consumer and political pressure to drop the changes.
Under new texting charges announced last month, customers whose cellphone plans did not include texting bundles will be charged 15 cents for incoming text messages.
Previously, customers without text plans were only charged for outgoing messages. Customers with a text messaging rate plan or bundle are not affected by the new charges.
Telus announced a similar plan, with its changes set to take effect on Aug. 24.

I taken no steps, because I refuse to own a cell phone for many reasons.... one being the unfounded high costs involved to own one here in Canada, where Canadians on average have the highest costs towards cells then most other developed countries.

It's all one be unregulated scam.

Prax,
Do you have an internet phone like I do? We love it, as we can call anytime to the US, Canada and now Europe - with no additional charge. My husband likes to call his old cronies in OK - his relatives in the country - and old friends who have moved away.
I have a cell, but basically I hardly ever use it. It's $39.99 per mo. How much is a plan in Canada?

About $42.99 but I got rid of land lines, cells and have adopted FRSs.

My cell plan costs me $18 through Telus Mobility. Unlimited nights and weekends and a very small day time calling package. And I hope to talk to them about blocking text messages, I'm sure they have some way of doing that.
