What a yawner - allstar game

Oh, but I thought that when goals are hard to get, they're exciting.

What I look for in a game is enough activity to offset rigor mortis.

What it is is a bunch of guys floating around doing less than they doing daily during a light skate. I haven't seen the ratings from this game but TV viewership of NHL allstar games has been declining for years. For the simple reason that very few people find them entertaining.

I think in this day and age Talloola the game is going to be what the majority think it should be and want it to be. Having said that it think it would be a much better game if the fighting was taken out. I think the fighting really just appeals to simple minds (like Cherry's) and has nothing to do with hockey or skills and yet influences the outcome of the game. How many debillitating injuries are caused by fighting and how much does it shorten the average career? While I admit Tiger Williams was a pretty fair hockey player, most of the goons like Semenko and the little Italian goon who played for TO a few years back, were no more hockey players than my amputee grandmother.

I don't mind the 'odd' fight, hate the staged ones. The danger in the game are the hits or colitions
at a high rate of speed (because players are the fastest they have ever been), while hitting the boards.

The concussions are the worrysome part at the moment. The blind hits to the head have now been rules in
at penalties and suspensions, so they are allready declining.

They now have to address the other head shots, and figure out how to differentiate between accidents and
intentionals, so it seems they will figure out something there.

I have not seen players end their careers or have serious injuries from fights, I guess it must have
happened at some point, but fights are not the danger of the game.

The all-star game has been played for years and years, and the same whining has happened every year,
and we will hear it again next year, but happily the the celebrations will continue every year, with
the game, possibility with different formats, but it will cntinue, as it is enjoyed by many, especially
the thousands who are 'THERE' where it is played.
Also, the players love it too, it gives them a break 1/2 way thru the season.
I watched the AHL all star game tonight, exactly the same kin of game the NHL had, the place was full,
they have 10,000 in their building (full house), screaming fans, who are having fun, cheering and clapping
for those all stars on the ice. It is climax to a 2 day celebration, same as the NHL.

Good for them, people having a good time, sure nothing wrong with that, if they didn't enjoy it, the
building would be empty.

The AHL are all the affiliate teams of the NHL, (like the manitoba moose.)

a three hour promo for an event? No hitting etc, of course not, with millions on the line
for each player you really think they want to take a chance getting hurt?

Why even bother holding this game? Can't take a slapshot, no hitting..no one skates or shoots. What's the point?

They should sprinkle some oldtimers into the game. Any ex NHL player under 75 years old can play at that pace. At least it would interesting.

I'm trying to figure out what your point is, Kreskin- did the cops come up to your house and shackle you down in front of the T.V. with a gun held to your head that you don't turn it away? There is lots of stuff (the majority) on T.V. that I'm not the slightest bit interested in but I have no problem with it because I know other people enjoy it and I've have a dozen other things I can do. Maybe you need to get a life. :smile:

that is exactly the point, and it is not the choice of the players, it is the owners and managers,
they want them back in the lineup for league play. sure makes sense to me, and if a player is playing
a fun game how on earth does he build up a huge competetive style, and play like winning the game
is the only thing they are there for.

IT IS FOR FUN, SHOWCASING THE BEST PLAYERS, AND NOTHING MORE,of course it is a giant commercial for the sport, it is their half way celebration of themselves and
the NHL, put on by the NHL, and wherever it is held, the people fill the bulding, and have fun, can't
really see anything negative about that.

Just because a bunch of red necks want to drink their beer and watch the blood fly, who gives a flying
'puck' what they want.

I enjoyed both games, I love hockey, and I appreciate the skills of the NHL guys, the AHL not quite so
talented, some more than others.

Well you decided to make this personal. It seems if I can't skate like them then my opinion doesn't count. I watched the game in my usual way with a book to read during the dull parts of the game, which turned out to be almost all of it. The NHL in its genius managed to find a way to make a meaningless sporting event even more meaningless. What team was I supposed to support - Team Stahl? Team Lidstrom? Talk about a non-event. What is the format for next year's event? Perhaps they can have two of the players' wives or girlfriends pick the teams.

I liked the format better than usual. It was interesting to see different matchups, and people playing against teammates. It looked like they had fun.

Why some people insist that the game needs checking in an all-star event is beyond me. At a time when the best player currently on the roster is out due to a concusssion, you want guys to play an allstar game with a significant risk of injury? For what? There's no upside.

The league and owners don't even want their players to go to the Olympics, so I think it makes sense to have the all-star game a format like this. If you want to watch a game with checking, guess what? Each team plays quite a few every season.

Stop whining about nothing. You weren't forced to watch it, you chose to. If you didn't like it, go back to Cops and UFC. Some of us understand the game of hockey, apparently, you don't.

yeah, it's so easy to enjoy the whole event, including the game, and see the human side of all of them,
their kids and their 'natural' remarks and humour, without the 'stress' of serious interviews and anxiety
of the pre game or post game in the actual league, and the kidding between them at the draft, and the
fun they had playing.

that is the only time they can scrimmage together and have a game in fun, and enjoy each others company
outside of the long gruelling league, which is so serious, and should be.

I am a serious hockey fan, all of hockey, but I thoroughly enjoyed the loosness an the relaxed atmosphere,
it was a nice change, and a break in the action.

I loved watching all of them have fun.

yes, a very delightful change of pace, a time for 'everyone' to relax and see the other side of the
entire group, including players, coaches and referees.

we watch 82 games of intense, hard hitting, competetive hockey, serious, meaningful for all teams as
they are striving and playing thru a gruelling season working hard for that 'stanley cup they all
dream about, so one game that is loose and fun, is enjoyable for me, and i'm sure enjoyable for all
of them, afterall they do all like each other, and respect the talent of all their competetors who
were also there, and in the dressing rooms, they all took the time to get each other's autographs to
take home with them as a memory for years to come of that particular week-end.
