I don't watch the Allstar game but I have been to one in Montreal....it was fun.

The reasons the Allstar game is good....kids love it...it is good for the host city...and it gives a break from the schedule for most of the players to spend time with their families.

Plus, who didn't enjoy watching Kessel get picked last, they are moaning about it today on Toronto sports radio....funniest moment this year.

YouTube - Phil Kessel Gets Picked Last @ 2011 ASG Fantasy Draft (January 28)

Ovie snapping a few pictures is the icing on the cake.

doesn't really matter who was picked last, they are still ahead of all the players who were not picked
to attend.
they are a tough lot, tougher than any of us, and being picked last was nothing to them at that
particular event.

giving the car was a soother to make the fans feel better, as many of them would have felt sorry for him.
he will give it to a relative, so good for whoever gets it as a gift from him.

and the 20 thousand dollars to a charity of his choice was a nice touch.

Back in the good old days the Stanley Cup champions played the All stars who were selected by the Sports media. It was a
better system and it was better hockey. !! - 10 is a joke. Gordie Howe played in virtually every all star game when he was
in the NHL. He never had an injury, and he didn't wear a helmut. Now I think compulsory helmuts are a good idea but I think
the all star game should be a real game.

you can't do it because the teams won't allow for a game that has no merit to the standings for the playoffs to ever put their top players in harms way.

no GM will ever stand for it if their top player gets hurt during a meaningless game.

As opposed to a no hitting, no skating, no defense, 11 - 10 joke. Goals are only exciting when they are hard to come by.

Skating is necessary, so are shooting and passing, hitting and fighting aren't necessary to play the real game of hockey. Fighting is actually detrimental, so's the hitting actually but N.H.L. is all about money and fighting is good for separating the money from the idiot mentality.

sure, whatever. it's not meant to be competitive like a real game. real fans know that.

I'm a real fan, but only of real hockey. If you want to see players shoot at styrofoam targets and skate in alone on the
goaltender, etc, watch the skills competition.

real hockey is skating and shooting and great goaltenders making big saves..

not neutral zone traps and fighting all the time, and boring cycling over and over.

today's hockey is no where NEAR as entertaining as it was 20 years ago.

You must have caught the two players skating in unopposed on the goaltender from center ice, passing the puck
back and fourth about five times. This was real hockey???

It has never been like a league game, and going back to gordie howe is ridiculous, that hockey was so
old and different, shots were not nearly as hard, the slap shot came in when jeffrion invented it, and
then goalie helmets came along.
Some of the more serious injuries back then was gordie howe and his elbows, or someone getting their
bell rung (as they called back then), when they hit their head, and came back as soon as they could
see straight, they don't do that anymore with concussions, they are smarter now.

the game has changed 'big time' since then, I suppose you can't see that either.

this all star game was faster as any game played back then.

just don't watch it juan, let all of those who do enjoy it, all the kids, and the families in the
town where the game is played, watch it. It shouldn't be cancelled just because people like you
complain about it.

It's not about all of us sitting in our living rooms, its about the 'live' game for the people in
the building, and all the celebrations.

I use to think like that too, but as soon as I clued in and enjoyed it 'for' what it is, I began
to enjoy it very much. I like all of the stars getting together, all the hoopla, the red carpet
section where the players shake hands with the fans, sort of like the academy awards. The people
who were there loved it, I would never want that taken away from them, just because I want to see
hitting, shot blocking and slap shots, forget it, i'm not that selfish.

The format will be tinkered with each year, they have always done that, and that is
just fine.

What it is is a bunch of guys floating around doing less than they doing daily during a light skate. I haven't seen the ratings from this game but TV viewership of NHL allstar games has been declining for years. For the simple reason that very few people find them entertaining.

I think in this day and age Talloola the game is going to be what the majority think it should be and want it to be. Having said that it think it would be a much better game if the fighting was taken out. I think the fighting really just appeals to simple minds (like Cherry's) and has nothing to do with hockey or skills and yet influences the outcome of the game. How many debillitating injuries are caused by fighting and how much does it shorten the average career? While I admit Tiger Williams was a pretty fair hockey player, most of the goons like Semenko and the little Italian goon who played for TO a few years back, were no more hockey players than my amputee grandmother.

Which would be why soccer is so popular on TV in North America.

Soccer is a very good game for the players but boring as hell for someone to watch.
