well hockey just around the corner, we're into September, so it all gets going this month, first

being the 'young stars' tournament in Penticton, September 10

the roster for this team is on the canucks official web site,

then the regular training camp starts up around the middle of the month.

GO CANUCKS GO

i'll have baseball, football golf and hockey to watch, what could be better than that.

P.K. Subban donates $10M to Montreal Children's Hospital

The Montreal Children's Hospital is getting a boost from one of the city's favourite Habs.

It's naming its atrium in honour of P.K. Subban on Wednesday morning, after the star defenceman made what the hospital is calling "the biggest philanthropic commitment by a sports figure in Canadian history."

"Montreal has become my second home," Subban said. "My love for Montreal is why I wanted to make a significant contribution to this city and this province."

The funding will be used in part for a fund called P.K.'s Helping Hands, which will help families struggling financially with a child's illness.

An official announcement was made at the hospital today, but Subban missed the beginning of it as he was stuck in traffic.

He arrived to a standing ovation and shouts of "P.K.! P.K.!" from the large crowd gathered in the atrium for the announcement.

"As I was walking out of the backroom, I noticed the P.K. Subban lettering up there and I got goosebumps," Subban said pointing to his name which now adorns a wall on the atrium.

"It's not too many times I get goosebumps in what I do playing hockey for a very long time in front a lot of people. That's probably the only time I got goosebumps in a long time."

Greg Rokos, chair of the board of directors of the Montreal Children's Hospital foundation, said the donation was like "Christmas in September."

On hand for the announcement this morning were Subban's parents, his sister Natassia, Élise Béliveau, the wife of late Canadiens legend Jean Béliveau, and Michel Lacroix, head announcer of the Montreal Canadiens.

The new Montreal Children's Hospital opened at the Glen site earlier this year.

Good for P.K. (I probably won't be commenting on hockey for at least another month. When the Canucks have 10 games or so under their belt- I'll check their stats and make a decision at that time. Still summer down here, although the mornings are starting to feel like fall. :))

I pay attention to stories like this one, JLM............but I don't keep up on what the teams are doing this time of year..........although I did read that Alfie might be coming back to the Sens in some sort of executive position.

there is no reason to suspend or suggest to kane, 'not' to attend training camp, he hasn't been charged

with anything, and all it is right now is a distraction, if people can't deal with that, too bad.

he should train with his team, he should do everything he always does at this time of the year, and

if he is charged with something, then the hawks can decide, or the nhl can decide what they want to

do. no one is considered guilty until charged, and even then it has to go thru legal process, and

be proven one way or the other.

calling him a name only proves that a person just doesn't like him, who cares, lots of people don't

like other people, that's life.

All true talloola and I agree with all your comments. I did wonder, however about the way the press conference was handled. I highly doubt it was held at Patrick's request. It had the feeling of one being thrown to the wolves about it and I blame the club for that. I would have thought that a dynasty such as the Hawks would be able to handle such a delicate situation in much better manner.

"I will be absolved of having done nothing wrong.”

Ooooooooooooooooooooh- that doesn't sound too promising. :)

yes, I agree, he was obviously just doing what he was asked to do, with the written script, although his
English was haywire right at the end, we giggled about that.

I thought he should have made his statement, and that was enough, no questions at all, and the question
the media guy asked him was ignorant, typical media, no class at all, they just want to stick their
noses in, and they are so arrogant, thinking everyone should automatically answer every question they
ask, I mean what the hell, why on earth would he ask such a tacky question as , are you going to stop
drinking now? jeesh.

yes, it was all on the team, whomever decided how to do the kane presser, blew it.

yeah, that was what we were giggling about, and he was obviously very nervous standing
there, and I'm sure he also noticed 'that' poor grammar, after the fact, and would have felt very stupid.

our media here in Vancouver say that even if he is found innocent of all charges, he will never play for
Chicago again, he has tarnished their name, and will go to buffalo.

if he is found innocent of all charges, why would he still be thought of as doing something wrong, I can't
understand that, I mean he might have been sucked into something stupid, but still, if he is innocent
of charges, then he just falls into the cartagorie of much of the public, whom many could recall a time
in their lives, they would like to completely forget, as it was very stupid or dumb.

His entire demeanor bothered me, talloola. Instead of squaring his shoulders, head up and facing the camera speaking clearly and succinctly he was almost incoherent a couple of times. Certainly raised some questions in my mind.

I just think he was extremely nervous, it is against his whole character to have to be that serious,

as he is a very light hearted, happy person, I even notice many times in a game he smiles or even

laughs at things that happen on the ice, he just doesn't take life that serious, and now he has to go to a place

that is totally opposite to 'who' he is, but whatever the outcome of this situation is, it definitely

will change him, as he won't ever want to find himself in the same situation again, he will learn about

life, and how others behave, and how he should be more alert and aware of himself and others.

guilty or innocent, that will happen.

Just watched highlights from the Pens vs Hurricanes game. Looks like Phil and Sid have some chemistry going for them. Nice win for the Pens tonight.
