I thought chicago won the first and third periods, and detroit shone in the 2nd, amazing how that works,

but detroit's inexperienced young defence get themselves into trouble.

Patrick Eaves was the first goal scorer for detroit, hossa for chicago.

joakim andersson for detroit in second period.

handsuz, bryan bickell, mickell frolik, chic. damien brunner, det. all goal scorers. 3rd period.

At this point I would like chicago to finish them off next game, as their team is more balanced, good

offense and defense, and goalkeeping is good too, just not great, but he did well for them all season,

so if they play well in front of him, they will be fine, he let in one softy tonight.

Toews is back to his old self, and played a great game tonight. They didn't expect detroit to give them

any problems, and it definitely shook toews up when they got behind in the series, but I think he is full

speed ahead now.

The 'madhouse on madison' will be pulsating on wednesday.

Just hope boston makes pittsburgh work hard enough, so they have to at least break a sweat.

I'm depending on boston to get down and dirty like they did with canucks, as it is the only way

they will have their way with them.

All these teams have to work very very hard to get through these playoff series, but once pittsburgh

got by islanders, they haven't had to do enough, they need to be pushed hard, or they will be too

fresh in the finals.

Fatigue is a factor by then, for some teams.

Fresh is fine with me, talloola..........LOL!

Just hope 'my' guys have watched enough to tape to have a handle on the Bruins and Rask. Glad the team has a few more days to prepare and Sid has a bit of time to get used to playing w/o his jaw protector.

Will be cheering for the Sharks tonight.

boston have improved since playoffs began, but don't think they can defeat pittsburgh in a 7 game series,
unless vokoun slips, that goes for any team, without a good goalie, playing his best, no team will win.
Its very difficult to win in spite of your goalie.

If we want to watch a fun final series, it should be chicago and pittsburgh, they both have high end
offense, but chicago have better defense, but pittsburgh have crosby, so that kind of evens out.

The offense will be able to 'play' their game, to a point, and the defense will keep the games stable,
so that it is a good balanced series, good to watch.

San Jose or l. angelos, will be tough, very close checking, and great goalkeeping, but the play probably
won't be flowing at all, players will have to fight their way to the net, or just score from the point,
on a power play, etc., or just in a scrum in front of the net.

I like pittsburgh a lot, but they aren't our team, can't cheer for them, I never cheer for the east.

Not sure how I will figure that out next season, when there will be four big divisions, guess I will
just stay within my division till there is no team left there, then move over 'one' division and
find a team to cheer on.
I'll figure it out when the time comes.

OK, here in the west, another team is 'out', but they shouldn't feel any shame at all, because the
game could have been anybody's. A hard fought game, two quick goals by williams, then dan boyle scored in the third, to make it 2-1, then a sprint to the end, but san jose just couldn't score that 2nd one.

quick was awsome, but nieme also was good, neither goalie let in anything soft.

The series was a win for each team in their home rink, so that home ice advantage
did mean something.

l.a. moves on, now we just have to see who comes out of the detroit/chicago series
tomorrow.

After paying closer attention to the LA Kings and with this win..........I'm going to predict that the Kings will beat which ever team wins tomorrow night and advance to play Pittsburgh in the Cup - I think they have it in them.

Justin William's goals were very reminiscent of the first two James Neal scored on his way to a hat-trick for the Pens. First one was down and dirty and the second on bended knee from the right side of the net. Think he might have seen tape of Neal? ;-)

Two great Canadian-born hockey players and real assets for their teams. Kind of sorry, Justin didn't get his three - sure wasn't for lack of trying.

these two teams played each other so even, and played same kind of hockey, and had two top notch goalies.
but, when l.a. meet up with chicago, it will be different, two very different teams, and they will both
have to adjust somewhat.
l.a. isn't a better team than chicago, player for player, but l.a. will force their opponant to 'work'
for everything they want to accomplish.

Great defense can be taught by good coaching, to a point of almost bringing the game to a standstill,
and suffocating the opponant, but great offense is a natural gift, and created by the player, but
they have to fight their way thru that defense to do it.

but chicago have to defeat detroit first, seems automatic, but I remember detroit going into anaheim for the
7th game and beat them, but I just can't imagine chicago letting this one slip away now.

will be a good one.

Nah, just "pulling your chain", Talloola- I don't like Chicago or Boston and am not overly obsessed with Pittsburg and L.A. won it last year.

Don't think I would ever call my support of the Pens overly obssesive anymore than I would apply the term to a Canucks fan. The Pens have been the team I cheer for since I started watching hockey again after the first lock-out. Had watched Sid coming up through the minors and liked his style of hockey. When Pittsburgh grabbed him, I decided they would be my team. They, like any other team, have their faults and at times they have me at my wits end, but then all teams do that to their fans.

Sure it's nice to see them doing so well but there have been times when I truly didn't think they would make it all the way through. Now I believe they have a chance as long as they don't do that stupid 'resting on their laurels' BS which they tend fall back on from time to time. The laurels will come when they hoist the Cup. In the meantime they need to play every minute of every game.

Just saying.

will be a good one.

I sure hope so, talloola would be a shame to see Detroit go down without fighting hard all the way. But I do think they are going down unless Mike Babcock can pull something truly spectacular out of his bag of tricks, the momentum is with the Hawks right now. JMO.

well, detroit is still alive, so they have a chance, if that defense can stay focused and not become
overwhelmed by high end offense, they do have the rest of the package to win over any team.

lidstrom, rafalski and stuart are gone, so there are inexperienced defencemen trying to
pick up the slack, and they haven't had much time, but never say never.

I find it absolutely mind boggling that there are some people who claim that the
l.a./san jose series was boring. That word never ever entered my mind at any time
during the series.

not enough goals scored, and not enough shots on net they say, well, they forgot
to mention the scoring 'chances' for both teams, and how amazing 'quick' played,
along with niemi.
what do some people want, just end to end rushes, and a goal scored on every other
rush, guess that would be fun but doesn't make for 'any' defense at all.

It also gives no respect to two teams and their coaches who work their guts out,
play so so hard end to end, and never slack off for a second, come away from
every game battered and bruised, and have given everything they have, to the
game.

I so agree with you, talloola.......and am still thankful you told me to start watching them. Great fast-paced hockey and two goalies who just wouldn't quit. It was great series.

Heard today that Torts got turfed............some people might say that it couldn't have happened to a nicer fella. ;-) Don't imagine he will be out of a job for long though.

Games about to get underway - here's hoping for some really good hockey!

torterella better not end up in vancouver, BUT I can't ever imagine gillis and torterella together trying
to have a conversation, 'like night and day', so I don't think I need to worry.

After the game, TSN played a clip taken earlier in this series when Jonathan Toews was having a bad patch. Toews sat in the penalty thoroughly frustrated and in skates Brent Seabrook to pat his Captain on the shoulder and say a couple of words. Whether or not that encouraging word made a difference it was soon apparent that something had sparked Jonathan and since then he has been on the puck. As one the TSN guys opined..........it was karma that Seabrook got the goal.

I like that story a lot because it illustrates something that is vital to the health and welfare of a team and that supporting each other in good times and for sure, in bad. Nothing is more frustrating for a good player then to go through a bad patch, as I like to call them but it is equally frustrating for his teammates who want to see him play better knowing that all they can do is keep being there for him and stepping up a bit more often.

ROCK ON BRENT SEABROOK..........AND HEROES WILL BE BORN.

That 3rd period was hockey..........really really good hockey. It was anyone's game and the next goal would take it and each team stepped up to the challenge. Great Game 7.

I cheered for Detroit all the way but it wasn't until they got the goal that I started believing they might have a chance. Jimmy Howard saved their bacon so many times but it was not to be.

I still think Chicago is going to have a tough time against the Kings - and both teams will have very little 'hang time' being that the WCF starts on Saturday.

I heard some TSN person talking about the possibility of Tortorella going to Vancouver and I immediately thought of how thrilled you and JLM would be to hear that news. LOL! ;-)

yeah, that would be a nightmare.

yeah, could have been anybody's game tonight, glad to see detroit stay with them, they can be proud of
themselves, and next year they will be stronger.
yeah, I saw the game where toews lost it, and seabrook felt the need to go see him in the sin bin, and
console him, a pat on the head.

i'm sure toews even surprised himself, by losing his composure, but he sooned snapped out of it, next
game, and looked like himself again.
He definitely finds it hard to 'smile', even after winning tonight, he was trying to smile, but he still
looked serious, a good captain.

The irony of Glen Sather having to fire someone as arrogant as he is...

I wonder if he took his cigar out of his mouth while he did it, or maybe it doesn't come out any more. lol

 I had a hunch you might feel that way. I have a sneaking suspicion that benching Brad Richards might have been a deciding factor in his quick departure from NY following the team's loss.

He didn't even crack a smile while giving a postgame interview to TSN nor when he was congratulating his mates. Jonathan is a good captain probably why he pushes himself so hard. Even when the pressure is off and he's back in form, he's still so focused and intense - you see shots of him on the bench and he is right there in the middle of the play with his mind.

So it is the last four Stanley Cup Champions left standing - there's symmetry in that.

Coverage of both series begins this Saturday. TSN is covering the first three WCF games then CBC will pick the rest of the coverage and combine it with coverage of the ECF.

WFC is on for 2 pm Saturday and EFC starts at 5pm.

Now things get really interesting.

Not too worry, talloola........I'll just cheer twice as hard and twice as long. LOL! Just hoping that Game 1 for LA and Chicago doesn't go to OT and interfere with the start of the ECF. I want to be there for each and every minute of these last games.
