its just the old problem that pittsburgh has, 'rearing' its ugly head, they don't know how to play
good defense, they depend on their strong offense to carry them thru, and that is OK when they
are playing league games and their division is also not great defensively, and also the rest
of the eastern conference isn't really tight defensively, with the exception of a few teams.

boston has always played a good two way game, they play a total team game, and defense is important,
and then when it comes to the 'last' position of defense, 'the goalie', pittsburgh's goalies are just not good enough.
Their goalies need lots of support around them, and they don't get it from the players.

Maybe they will figure it out, but obviously bylsma has also depended on the offense to win, and
now he also must see where he went wrong, again, one would think he would have learned from the
philly series last year.

If they don't turn this around, and win, he will probably be fired.

I had my niggling doubts about Vokoun since he replaced Fleury.....way too loosey-goosey at times - now with both of them being unable to stop Boston...........I think the Pens days are numbered. It sure doesn't help when your top players, Crosby, Malkin and Letang keep giving the puck away or failing to make important checks besides not being able to get the puck in the net. If they couldn't do it at home, talloola, I highly doubt they will be able to do it in Boston's own backyard.

Yeah, I could see management dumping Dan - if so he could be a candidate for the Canucks. ;-)

They have to go with vokoun next game, the goals he let in were not the weak ones that fleury let in,
in my opinion fleury is all done in pittsburg, he seems to have lost it entirely, has to go back to
the drawing board.

Pittsburg tries to 'skip' hard work, in favour of showing overwhelming offense, 'sorry' but that doesn't
work, and is arrogant. No team in the playoffs can skip 'hard' work, and the necessity to earn everything
they get, and also expect results.
Maybe they realize that now, and decide to turn over a new leaf, if they can.

excellent game in l.a. tonight. l.a. played their usuall home game, by winning it, and rising to

the occasion, and by doing that they are right back in the series now.

chicago also played well, lots of big hits by both teams, lots of crashing and bashing, and speed, speed galore.

both goalies played well, crawford a bit busier than quick, as l.a. wasn't going to lose this one,

not at all.

good playoff hockey, its what we expect from teams who are battling hard for that 'cup'.

don't think keith will be suspended for the retalliation, when his stick swinging
went too high and caught Carter in the mouth, he did apologize and Carter remained in the game, with no serious injury,
just a dumb thing to do, he did serve 4 minutes, and I think that will be all.
it was a quick reaction to the smack 'carter' gave to his hand/glove on the ice.
If he does get a game for that, it will hurt chicago big time.

Interviewed by the media prior to the start of Game 3, Justin Williams was crystal clear about the importance of this game........'it is do or die.. well not really ........but it is do or die.' He took those words to heart, put them into action tonight and it earned him Electric Player of the Game. He was first on the board and always a threat throughout the game. Interviewed after the game, he was equally lucid.....'it wasn't a must win .........but, it was ........a must win.' Right on Justin.

Great game talloola. It was so cool to see the speed of the teams and the nifty puck maneuvers by many of the Kings. They looked like Stanley Cup Champs tonight. Really glad to see them come back like this........loved the empty-netter. From what the panel were saying, it is doubtful Keith will face further discipline and I agree, he shouldn't. He was obviously remorseful and went right over to Carter after the hit.......he knew he stepped over the line. It was spur of the moment, he did his time and that should be the end of it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them win Game 4 too - their building definitely gives them a huge edge. As one of the panel said.........this was a totally different LA team from the one we saw in Games 1 and 2. That said, they still have to go back to Chicago and what they really need to learn is how to win on the road.

yes, they are very strong at home, just as chicago is at home, BUT chicago will plan for the nextgame,
with a new strategy, so it will be interesting to see if they are successful.
chicago have the home ice advantage when it comes to game 7, so they just need to win one in l.a., and
it will probably be enough to win the series earlier than game 7, and even if they don't win one in l.a., if they just win
all of their home games, chicago will win,but l.a. have to win one in chicago.

I was thinking Vokoun too, then I listened to some arguments on SportsCenter tonight about the Pens putting Fluery in their net to start Game 3. They had to do with his record for the team but a lot of talk was also given to him being such a highly-paid player. We'll see, honestly.......I hope the Pens go shopping for a better goalies in the off-season. It is the weakest link in the chain and when a team is struggling as we have often seen throughout the play-offs your goalie can get you through. Vokoun is a constant worry to me. I know he has done well by the team but he has so many holes at times it is a sheer wonder that so few goals have found them so far. I don't blame him for the losses, it would have been nice if all the saves he made had been paid back by a couple of goals at least............oh and a little better on the puck management in their zone.

That's a really good point about working for the goals, the game and the wins, talloola. And it's true. I watched our guys closely the other night. Time and again, there they were skating aimlessly down/up/across the ice, missing important checks or otherwise being completely disengaged from the play. That stupid chip-shot attempt by Crosby which Marchand scored on? If you are going to make a dangerous shot like that you better make sure it clears the zone.........I couldn't believe Crosby missed that so badly..........I am honestly beginning to wonder if there is yet again another problem with his bod or his health or his head or something..........he's just not playing like he did in the series against Ottawa. Something is badly amiss there.

On the other side of the ice, the Bruins are tickled pink now that they have enticed the Penguins into playing their style of hockey and they are showing how happy they are by playing really good hockey. They make the game exciting.

he just reminds me of toews when they lost the first two games against detroit. He totally lost his
concentration, felt so frustrated and responsible for everything that was happening, that he couldn't
do anything, looked like an idiot at times.
Things just aren't going like they had 'anticipated' it would go, everything is haywire, and the captain
and the best player on the team must fix it, (in his own mind),but the frame of mind isn't there at the
moment.

If the pens were playing the bruins style of hockey they would be doing much better. they are playing
a lazy style of hockey, and wondering why it isn't working, that isn't bruins hockey, they work, work
work all the time, the only thing that can make me dislike the bruins, is when they play a brutal style
of hockey, but they haven't even had to do that, it has been rather easy for them, especially in the
second game.
If the pens knew how to play a totally defensive style game, they should do that till they get more
control in their game, but I don't think they know the meaning of the word 'defensive'.

Maybe Bylsma has them doing that in practice today, just to give them some responsibility in their own
end of the ice, before they get it in their heads to rush up the ice and score a goal.

On TSN tonight Darren Dreger outlined the proposed rule changes coming out of the NHL Competition Committee. In no certain order they are:

- any player with 25 or less games in the regular season will have to wear a visor. Players over 25 games are grand-fathered and able to chose to or not.
- one that came right out of left field is changes to to the size of the net. Though officials are saying the net won't be any smaller, the fact is the changes state that it will be narrower by 4 inches on each side. This is provide for more room behind the net.
- all high-sticking penalties will go to video review
- the instigator penalty is apparently still under review - no proposed changes yet
- hybrid icing is also under review
- in addition, every piece of the players equipment will be under review with an eye to smaller shoulder pads and other changes - apparently goalies will be closely watched for infractions of their equipment but I didn't quite catch what is was

All these proposals will now go before the board of governors for final approval though the visor rule and the net changes are going ahead.

Nothing was mentioned about the much reviled puck over ice penalty which was punned and panned wonderfully by the TSN crew between periods tonight - great job guys. Nice way to sign off. The remaining games of the WCF will now be carried by CBC.

Here's a link to the TSN website, talloola...........your hubby can watch it there. It is on the right side of the page under the video section............and I agree it is well worth watching.

NHL Hockey News | Scores & Standings | TSN Hockey Schedules | Highlights

Also worth watching, IMO, are the montages produced by CBC prior to the start of all the play-off games they cover. I love the mixture of images and choice of music - they really get me ready to watch the game and I have enjoyed everyone of them.

Boston is up 1 - 0 after the first and I would be really disheartened were it not for the fact that the Pens actually showed up for this game and they are playing pretty decent hockey. They aren't great and there are a lot of holes, the stars are still goal-less but there is some life in the team and Vokoun has been solid in the net.

Don Cherry made a point of showing a clip of the Kid signing autographs before the game tonight something he does before every game. I thought it was a nice gesture of Sid's then Don pointed out that in spite of doing so poorly in the series so far and the frustration he is feeling along with the fact that he knows many fans are upset with him - there he is ready to face the music. Not, as Cherry also mentioned, slinking into the stadium as other 'superstars' have been known to do when they are in a similar situation.

good game tonight, goalies playing superb, boston took far too many penalties, let pittsburgh get some
energy going with all the man advantageshifts, but game still 1-1, so we have a one period hockey game
now.

keith got one game suspension, and thats fine, but looking at the slow motion that don cherry played
of carter's move just before that, shows that a fraction of an inch more and keith's hand probably
would have been broken, at least some fingers, so in my mind the whole play including both players is
somewhat unfair, seeing carter skate away 'the good guy' and keith labelled 'the bad guy', doesn't
make sense to me.

am watchin Pitt-Boston in OT

good match

yeah, excellent match, just waiting for second overtime, pittsburgh have to win this one, or
they are toast, game has changed back and forth for each team to dominate, boston just had
their turn, maybe it will be pittsburgh to start next period.

both goalies are playing excellent.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well, speaking of toast, the bruins just scored in the second overtime to win. Beautiful pass from
marchand to bergeron, and in it went.

someone had to win, too bad, because it was an excellent game, I enjoyed every minute.

both teams gave their all, and both goalies were up to the task, and the winning goal wasn't
the fault of the goalie, just a real good goal, scored by a real good player.

they can whine all they want that a penalty call was missed just before that goal,
but if you go thru the game lots of penalty calls were missed for both teams.

What a thrilling game that was last night.........so glad my Pens showed up to play for a change. Really proud of their efforts with the PKs - stood the Bruins up at the blue-line time and again - great job guys. Geno was a monster last night. Sid was much better in the face-offs but was still shut out of points. Vokoun really played a great game last night dispelling my worries about him - he looked good in spite of those two goals. Just wish they had played this well earlier in the series - they may not be facing elimination in Game 4.

The officiating stinks as usual but it stinks for both sides - no calls, stupid calls that barely meet the criteria for a penalty - nastiness all over the ice from both teams. But hey - that's play-off hockey, right.

Should have mentioned the courage of Gregory Campbell............after having his fibula broken on a blocked shot..........he stayed at his post, obviously in great pain and never left the ice till his shift was over - unfortunately he will be out for the rest of the play-offs.

chicago will struggle tonight without duncan keith, but these situations call for other players to step
up and fill the void.

l.a. will be eager to jump all over them with keith out, and of course they are still at home, and can
tie up the series with a win.

hope its a good game and not lopsided, hope they battle till the end, and keep it very close, which
ever team wins.

I was very happy with the outcome of the chicago/l.a. game. I was hoping for chicago tonight,
as they were without their best defenceman, so I was interested to see how they would gather
together and close the gap left by his absence.

The third period told the story, they put on a clinic, and kept l.a. down to 2 shots for the period,
and l.a. looked tired and slow by the end of the game.

back to chicago now, and my guess is that its just about the end of the line for l.a., if not next
game, well, the game after, or the game after that.

I enjoy patrick kane's personality, there is often a silly grin on his face, and he seems to find
little things in the game funny, eg. tonight when someone high sticked him, and he fell to the ice,
looked up and said 'what was that', with the smile.
shows he is having fun, even with all the stress and physical intensity and so much to gain or lose.
thats the way it should be.
