in the old days, clutching and grabbing was allowed, which slowed the game down a lot. The game is much
faster now, and players must keep their sticks to themselves, and not hooking on the hands of a player.
And, yes, those hooking calls do get annoying, but I wouldn't change that for the rides players use to get
while hooked onto a player in front of them, and that also slowed the play.

Keep hands to yourself, not on another player, which slows the play. The skating in todays hockey is
better than ever, the game is fast, free flowing, players are bigger, hits are harder because of more
speed.

If one sits and watches old classic hockey, it is slow compared to todays game.

What I don't like in the game today, is 'STAGED' fights, they are tacky, roller derby, wrestling
type acting, which cheapens the game, a good spontaneous fight is understandable, but even those
have to be limited.
Did anybody get a look at that Hanson penalty? It was bad enough to have called that dopey penalty
but the NHL foolish forces had to give hanson a supension. Hanson is probably the cleanest player
in the NHL.

I watched the video about 19 times and I decided that Hanson was batting at the puck.
If Hanson was your player, would you have wanted him to try to put the puck in a place
advantagis to his team mates or should he have just let the puck fall wherever it fell.

I know juan, hanson had no plan to hit hossa on the head at all,and the fact that it was hossa, I
think made the decision to, first penalize him, then to suspend him.

BUT, the fact that he did accidentally hit his head caused the suspension, even though there was no
intent at all, just carelessness, he was just batting at the puck.

The hit looked fairly mild, and when hossa laid on the ice for that long was surprising to me, I
thought he might have been waiting for the penalty call before he got up, I wonder.
There would not have been a penalty till toews went and complained to the referee, then they called
the infraction, the whole thing smelled fishy to me.

My sentiments exactly. I would grugingly go along with a penalty but I can't see how Shanahan
could build that into a suspension. A suspension to a guy who gets about six penalties a year.

chicago blackhawks won again tonight, and became the 'new' record holder for straight games won from the
beginning of a season, since '1917. I don't know who had the record.

canucks also won again tonight, held on in the first period, probably had lead legs as it was second game
of back to back, but once they got thru the first perod without being scored on, they came to life and
played a decent game, weiss scored in the third period, from lapierre, only goal of the game.
Luongo played well, and another shut out for him.

they play in detroit on satrday, then back home.

just a note to say -- I noticed hossa practiced with chicago yesterday, and played tonight, he had lots of
jump, and didn't seem to be suffering any after effects from the tap on the head by hanson the other night. lol

yea winnipeg, I was cheering for them right to the end, Evander Kane is awsome, andthey
have a great goalie.

Kane is definitely a gifted player who is going to be a great super star. However, there is some controversy over remarks he made recently:

Is Evander Kane Right, Does Hockey Have a Problem with Racism? | Bleacher Report

I don't know the situation in that city so I cannot comment on it.

The NHL is endeavoring to reach out to inner city youth much like it did in the early 70s. Back then, its outreach only succeeded in Detroit. Its efforts in the NYC metro area and elsewhere were dismal. A few years ago when Marion Gaborek was on the Wild team he made a public appearance in St Paul's West Side where I live but few attended. That's because area people are mad as hell over the fact that the city took all funding out of our high school hockey program and put it all into the new Xcel Center.

Now that I am watching NHL again (after nearly 20 years!), I wish the league the greatest success in reaching out to city kids.

Tonight I watched the Rangers defeat Tampa Bay 4-1. For once, they had a good pp game!

I don't remember the specific racism remark, don't think it was recent, but i'm sure most black people/athletes come across some ignorant people on their travels, just the way it goes I guess.
Kane is a smart young man, who is still growing up, he will keep getting smarter and deal with
these situations like water going off a ducks back, as racist people aren't worth anyone's time.

I didn't watch the new york game tonight, as there were lots of western conference games on, and
I was going back and forth between them.

chicago, anaheim and montreal are the big front runners right now, most of the other teams don't
seem to have enough consistency, so with this shortened season, it will be hard for teams to catch
up in the standings, but once plaoffs start, 'anyone' can win, just like l.a. did last season, but
getting in the playoffs will be more difficult for many this season with only 48 games on the schedule.

There's racism all over this country, today, and its not all "black vs white". There's racism to against numerous groups by numerous groups. There was that idiot throwing a banana on the ice at Wayne Simmonds last year in Ontario (in that pre-season game), there's a lot of bigotry and hostility to (and undoubtedly from when you look at the Quebec media's Hab coverage and editorializing over the years) francophones in some places (Avery was known for it and Doan got tossed from that game in Mtl for a French slur a couple years back). Our country has a history in discriminating against various groups at various times, and that just doesn't go away. I have no doubt that Evander Kane, Jerome Iginla and others have and will continue to experience racism and bigotry in various places, but they are also fortunate in that they have the last laugh on most of those who seek to denigrate them: who is the professional athlete making millions, and who is the slob busting his @$$ to buy tickets? That is what they can hold on to, along with the fact that many of us aren't like, and don't condone that BS.

well said, ignorant remarks, said from a very narrow minded pin head will always appear from time to time,
and just the fact that kane, iginla and others have risen to the high level of a sports career shows all of
those low lifes who exist in the gutter, just who has spent the time to rise to a very good place in
their lives, after years of very hard dedicated work to get there.

On his post-firing relationship with Wilson: Burke said there was some fallout, including his former college pal suggesting he not attend his daughter’s wedding last summer. “I’m going to have to fire my best friend in a half hour,” Burke said of the moments before telling Wilson his fate a year go today. “There was a lot that was unpleasant.”

awkward.

well chicago won again tonight, although it was in overtime, still a win, so now they are 18-0-03, no

regulation losses at all, they look awsome, no weaknesses at all right now, although crawford is injured,

emery is doing just as well.

I wonder what team will be the first to defeat them in regulation time.

edmonton are on the road for 9 games because the briar will be in their rink.
they had a big win last night against dallas, but fizzled away in the 3rd period
tonight, and lost to st. louis.

anaheim also won again, bruce budreau has them playing at the top of their game.

canucks play los angelos tomorrow, and l.a. are on a roll, 5 straight wins, so canucks will have their

hands full, and kesler is out again for about 6 weeks with a broken bone in his foot, so vinault has

to juggle lines again, hope they can pull off a win.

I also watched that Chicago-Detroit game = it was awesome.

I missed that game, but detroit almost did it, but chicago pushes on still holding the regulation
game winning sreak.

canucks played a great game against l.a. saturday night, and won 5-2, the twins
showed how talented they are, especially henrik who put on a display of top notch
hockey, we are so lucky to have them, it is a priviledge to watch them all of
these years.

canucks lost to calgary tonight, sometimes goals go in that shouldn't, and others don't go in that
one thinks should, however, calgary pushed through the third period getting a power play goal, and
thats all they needed. 3-2

Lots of Habs fans in LI for the game.

I remember back in the 60s-70s when it was said that many Quebec puck fans insisted that the Habs be made up almost exclusively of French-Canadians. Last time I checked, there was only 1 F/C in their lineup. I guess times have changed.

Wow. It just shows you the type of person that Wilson is. Ruin a friendship (possibly) over getting fired, even though you deserved to have gotten fired a lot earlier than you did? Thanks for showing your true colours. Burke should have still sent a wedding gift. Perhaps a bottle of whine and a box of sour grapes?;) LOL!

chicago won again, and the beat goes on

canucks lost in a shoot out against san jose, just the way it goes, anyone could have won o lost
that shotout, first canucks could hsve finished it off, nope, then san jose could have, and did,
I think it was the 8th skater who scored, good game.

what a scary sight, but seems that he isn't seriously injured, at least
todays report said as much.

the poor young fellow on the ottawa team, had his first ever fight in the nhl, he was
knocked out, and even leaving the ice, he had to be held up, very rubber legged.

chicago won again tonight, yup, I just had to say it didn't I.

canucks play somewhere tomorrow, can't remember where, lol, but it is on about

4:30 from there.

just looked it up, 'columbus'.
