I totally agree that the Preds were robbed of a goal by a whistle that was way too quick, spammie.........BUT, the Preds had 4 PP chances that included a back to back with just under a minute of 5 on 3 and they couldn't get the job done. Murray was the only person who stood in their way and in Pekka's barn, Murray - a rookie - was the star.

As far as any further expansion teams and I'm taking it to mean into Canada, that won't happen as long as that little prick Buttman is at the helm.
I like taking shots at him as much as the next person but, we got Winnipeg back but where could they put another team? I know there are many rabid hockey fans in the Maritimes but where would you locate a team? Is there any one city big enough and with enough nearby population as well to support an NHL club?
Then there's Quebec City, which I'm afraid would potentially become a problem with players not wanting to play in QC like Lindros refused to do after being drafted by the Nordiques. Likely wouldn't have any issue with players from the province playing there but despite being a beautiful city and probably Canada's best kept secret, living there and not speaking any or very little French can be difficult.

I'm not sure if Sask could handle an NHL franchise either. Is either Saskatoon or Regina large enough to support an NHL club and if not, are they at least close enough together that driving from one to the other for a game wouldn't be a huge friggin' deal?

That pretty much leaves Ontario and from what I understand it's the Maple Leafs organization that's the stumbling block there.

Oh yeah, BOOOOO Penguins. I've "hated" that team ever since I was a kid.

Of all the markets, I think Saskatoon might be a good fit for an expansion team Jin. Ideally, it would be Regina with its close access to the border - look at all the fans who come across to attend Rider games. However, they just spent a bundle on the new Mosaic stadium so chances of building a new arena for a hockey are rather slim. I do believe with the right marketing they could get enough fans to support the team. They could take lessons from Nashville on how to do that. Then maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

Lots of folks hate the Penguins, Jin...................sure doesn't stop them from being a winning team. :p:smile:

Sounds like you think he's appropriately named. But I agree. There should be more NHL teams in Canada.

He's a smarmy, slimey little creep who sold his soul to the big money people long ago. The owners don't want the players in the Olympics and Buttman bends over and makes it so. I am hoping that when the talks are held with the players association that the guys make sure to have a clause in the new contract which gives them the right to play in the Olympics cause for sure, the players want to be there.

I realize that Buttman is only a pawn in the hands of greedy thoughtless money people who probably don't give a shit about the game itself but it would be nice if the head of the NHL showed at least some semblance of caring about the game. He doesn't and he never will and the day he's gone, I will celebrate long and hard...........though chances are we will get someone just as bad in his place.

"What will be able to be said with certainty is that Crosby has fashioned a career completely unique to history, and one that won’t be repeated. He’s been the single-most dominant force of an era – the toughest and most competitive ever – winning literally everything (and in most cases multiple times) at the individual and team level for both club and country."

Yeah, but I've hated them since the beginning. ;-)

After the last winter Olympics, I get it. The IOC were complete a$$holes about image rights. They expected the NHL to pay them to use picture of THEIR players playing in the Olympics. I get the players want to play in the next Olympics but the NHL is a business and from the looks of things, it doesn't make a whole lot of business sense to interrupt the NHL season as teams start making their playoff runs. It also doesn't make sense to have players run the risk of injury playing in the Olympics which could potentially affect their NHL team's performance in the run up to the playoffs.

Thank you for reminding me about the IOC, Jin........I'd forgotten the furor over the image rights - your point is well made on that.

Though I can understand the owners worries over possible injuries incurred during the games, the fact is that it is more injuries come about playing in the NHL where the rules are so fluid they may as well just throw out the rule book. At least in the Olympics the rules are ironclad and penalties or expulsion from the games are a matter of course.

I foresee a future where we will have to watch as European teams start to establish World dominance in Olympic hockey because it won't be our best players who will be attending the games. Shame that. Shame too that young players coming up in the league now may never have a chance to compete for their country.

I saw Scott's interview with Shania and I have to say that there could be some truth to this.
