I'm lost for the correct term right now but it's just one of those figurative devises that occurs so often in the Bible. Damn, this old age is a bugger!
There's quite a bit of Allegory, metaphor, hyperbole and even sarcasm in some of the old Testament writings. If one needs the punishment of eternal damnation to be a good person, they're NOT a good person. They lack empathy, not morals.
If you require the reward of eternal life to be a good person again, then you are NOT a good person.

Matthew 6:1-4

And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
It cognitive dissonance. The bible states "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.". People pick out the bits that suit them and discard those that don't. Which is fine, but definitely proof the bible is a group of books written by ancient philosophers, and not by the hand of some god. A god just lends credence or legitimacy to the teachings. It should never have become the focal point of the stories.
Metallica liked using bible passages in their early lyrics too.
Same with Judas Priest, Rush and a few others that escape my memory.
THAT just made me think that perhaps this god is not perfect; that it is an immature, malicious, and ignorant but it may be striving to become more like humans such as Lao Tsu, Gautama Buddha, the guru Nanak, and even some modern wise people. hehe
god is not perfect. How can it be? It was created by man.
If it had created us, it would have been perfect. its book would never have needed interpretation, it would never have had to use man to do it's bidding, it would have shown itself multiple times to multiple continents instead of hiding in the middle east and showing its self to herders.
Considering the time and culture of the people responsible for these writings I'd have to say it's a pretty amazing piece of literature .
oh for sure. Given the time and culture. No doubt about it. But for a god? pretty pizz poor, eh?
the two emotions that were used in a very colorful way back then was imagination and fear, use those two
emotions vividly in writing and one comes up with a very intereting fictional book.
What do you think talloola, that after you die, you will become energy and that's it?
How can you be so certain? and you will not be taken to account about your sins and evil acts (if you have any?)
This is only your assertion.
God is the Creator of everything, man is only one of His created beings.
God is Perfect: He creates His creatures in the perfect way as He wants them to be.
His book: the Quran includes plain ayat or revelations, in addition to some ambiguous ayat, that will be interpreted later on to be another revelation: the plain revelations + the interpretation of the revelations at another time to be extension in time.
He sends man as an apostle, because He does not sit together with His created servants, as do they sit with each other. He is God and they are His servants.
His commandments is to all people in all continents and in all the planets. But you are disbelievers, and herders in this respect are better than you with your high buildings, but with void hearts.
So do good work, and even receive the reward: why not?
Be a good person, and why not receive the reward?
And if you are so good and perfect: why all these laws and police and jails ..etc?
And why all these salaries and awards and prizes?
If you, as you claim, are so perfect and ideal, then refuse any reward given to you, or will you lick it up ?
If God - be glorified - as you claim malicious ...etc, then He would not have left you till now without smashing you, and you dare speak such words. Only giving respite to people till their appointed hour of death. Although they are in His capture at all times and all places.
A couple of reasons I can think of are that the god 1.does not care, 2. cannot keep track of each of us and what we do, 3. does not exist except in the heads of believers, 4. is impotent.
Apparently, that is not the case as it seems that one or more of the reasons I stated are true.
ok Well, can you think of another reason why your god has not smashed me then? It is not malicious? Well if it is not malicious then why does it torture and kill babies or at least allow that to happen?
Your powers of reasoning need updating as they are very weak.
I felt the same after the Paris attacks. But then I seen an article about the kurds saying they will avenge Paris. They are actually doing that and I was an idiot for what I said before.
I've personally worked with the Muslim kurds and they are definitely our friends.
And Boomer even posted that 2/3 of Muslims don't support hatred.
