Compare the stats from a Western culture, to one that requires conservative dress. It's pretty simple. Are mennonite, hutterite, muslim, or any other orthodox population, seeing improved rape statistics?

Apples and oranges. A better question would be how many many Mennonite, Hutterite or Muslim (devout) are being attacked in our culture. That's the point. What is the likelihood of a Hutterite girl being sexually assaulted walking down the street in Toronto vs a girl dressed like this...

As I said, I don't know the answer but I'd be interested in some scientific data if anybody has some.

I don't know the stats, but the argument seems to have changed from likelihood to accountability. I mean if we're talking rape here.. she could be walking around in Victoria secret lingerie and it's still your fault.

I don't think it would matter what they are wearing or what street they are on if the pervert is hell bent on sexually assaulting someone.

I'm not saying it would be the woman's fault.

Stranger attacks are crimes of opportunity. A woman doesn't need to be dressed provocatively to suffer one. That's the kicker. Telling women to change the way they act implies that if they still end up raped, they didn't do a good enough job.

That's my point. People keep saying that but I have yet to see any statistical data to back it up. I'm not disagreeing with you. I really have no idea. .

You can infer quite handily, if dressing all women according to a social norm causes rape statistics to plummet, then dressing ****ty (ie., outside the societal norm for conservativeness), is partially responsible for rapes. If dressing all women according to a social standard does nothing to improve rape numbers, then obviously dressing differently from other women is NOT responsible. I don't get how you don't see that.

No it's not.

I know you don't MEAN for it to, but it does. Meet a few victims, and discuss with them the time they've spent going over their own actions, trying to find a 'reason'. Rape victims do that no matter what anyone outside of their head has to say, and they do it even MORE when someone implies that they might have done something to warrant the rape. And yes, even when you say 'some rapes', they're going to internalize it and make it personal, because, well, it doesn't get much more personal than what they endured.

I do see that but our society does not dress all women according to a social standard. You are trying to compare Saudi Arabia to Canada and that just ignores all of the other factors including the position of women within the society. As I said, it's apples and oranges.

Oh it's the women's fault?

I'd say 600 lashes across the back of the rapist infront of your peers and 6 months in the pokey being beaten daily has more to do with it.

Death for raping also helps the cause.

I'd have to agree with Karrie, rape in saudi arabia is considered partly the womans fault. If she was a virgin before the rape than she is considered soiled and will have problems finding a husband.

oh yes, and you want to know why the report rate is so low for rape? Look again at the OP, that is one of the reasons.
