Unreal. Never expected anything like this.

Doesn't surprise me. I remember crying as a kid when Rangers narrowly missed out on reaching the 1993 Champions League Final.

Your team getting knocked out in the Semi-Final of a major tournament does that to a football fan, especially when you have just suffered your first home defeat since 1975; the worst World Cup Semi-Final defeat by any team in history; and your joint biggest-ever defeat (alongside the 6-0 defeat to Uruguay in September 1920).

You'll likely recall that I wrote how I always jinx my picks.

No great surprise that they were defeated. It's just how totally unprepared that really get me. Very poor coaching by Scolari. Brazil's soccer authorities better find someone else.

Kicking someone off their own land IS wrong.

Yeah. We're always losing wars, aren't we?

The last time I looked, Britain's (and England's before her) win to loss ratio in conflict is about the best there is, and much better than America's.
Lost an empire. Ireland. Scotland. France. North America. Parts of South America. India. The Middle East. Africa. Australia. Hundreds of islands. The only continent you haven't lost is Antarctica, because you never had it.

You lost the seas to the Yanks.

You lose World Cups with clockwork regularity. Ditto Euros.

Your youth culture comes from America, and has for over 50 years.

Old, toothless, clawless lion. Go sleep in the sun.

Ireland. Scotland.

Still got a bit of Ireland, and the bit that broke away did so against the wishes of the majority of the people. Still got Scotland, of course. And, of course, it was the BRITISH Empire, not the English Empire, with the Jocks, Taffs and Paddies every bit as willing participants in this glorious operation as the English.

Again, the northern and western parts of France should belong to Britain as they are the Queen's ancestral lands and it wasn't the English who invaded those lands. It was William the Conqueror, who owned Normandy and other parts of northern and western France, who invaded England and they remained in the English king's possession until they ended up being stolen off William's descendant King John by the French king in the 13th Century. The only lands he didn't manage to steal that belonged to the English monarch were the Channel Islands, the only part of Normandy that the French didn't steal off the English, and they are still British to this day. The Queen, and the United Kingdom by rights, should have those northern and western French territories back. They are English, not French, just like the 13 original American colonies. They are also the Queen's ancestral lands which were stolen off her ancestor..

North America. Parts of South America. India. The Middle East. Africa. Australia. Hundreds of islands.
And the world is suffering today as a result. The world is missing the British Empire.

The only continent you haven't lost is Antarctica, because you never had it.
Apart from the British Antarctic Territory, a British Overseas Territory which is the size of Libya.

You lost the seas to the Yanks.
That can change. You won't always rule the seas. We'll get them back one day.

You lose World Cups with clockwork regularity.
We've won more of them than you. Only five teams have won more World Cups than England.

Your youth culture comes from America, and has for over 50 years
.
No. Your youth culture comes from Britain.

It wasn't at the time, though, was it? You didn't kick the British off American land. You kicked the British off British land, don't forget that. And I'm certain that one day we'll reclaim it.

Sent the Engrish packing...

How Brazil vs. Germany played out on Twitter | #WorldCup2014 - YouTube

Seriously, Neymar actually took part in a 7-Up commercial in Brazil recently. How ironic.

And here are some more memes:

Not so incredible: Brazilian striker Hulk failed to impress in the semi final

Sharp shooter: In-form striker Thomar Muller fires Brazucas, the official ball of the World Cup

Boy band One Direction even managed to get a place in the viral images which spread across the internet following Brazil's defeat. Louis Tomlinson (second left) co-owns League One club Doncaster Rovers

This tweet from the World Cup account also went viral on the internet

Which part? Rock, or hip-hop?

We gave the world punk, heavy metal, trip hop, drum n bass, glam rock, indie pop, big beat and countless other music genres.

We also gave the world goths, mods, punks, skinheads, rockers and Teddy Boys.

Brazil's darkest hour: National mourning, riots in the streets and even fans turning on each other as World Cup hosts face up to utter humiliation of 7-1 defeat at hands of Germany

Sadness has turned to anger in Brazil as violence broke out on the streets after the dreams of millions of football fans were left in tatters. Spectators inside The Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte were in tears last night (left) as their side succumbed to a humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany in the World Cup semi-final, ending dreams of a title on home soil. In pictures that emerged today, fans were also shown fighting in the stands (bottom right). Outside the stadium, riot police tackled angry fans (centre). In Rio de Janeiro officers descended on Copacabana beach amid reports of gunfire. Authorities were also called to a densely-populated area of Sao Paulo after football supporters reportedly set a bus alight. Brazil's stand-in captain David Luiz is pictured (inset) in tears after the final whistle.

Blaze: The bus was left as little more than a burnt-out shell after the 7-1 defeat, which saw dismayed fans howling with despair in the streets

.. while Folha De Sao Paulo say 'Brazil Suffer The Worst Defeat in History'

Germany - looking to win the World Cup for the first time since reunification - will play either Netherlands or Argentina in the Final of the 2014 World Cup.

Ominously for those two sides, Germany have played either Netherlands or Argentina nine times so far in the World Cup and have suffered just ONE defeat.

In truth, it is a wonder that the repercussions haven't been worse - at least to this point. Hate to say it but I'm sure it is going to get worse for a long time. Brazil spent FAR too much money on displacing the poor in order to build up these stadiums and accommodations for the wealthy crowds that came to watch the matches. The wealthy benefited at the expense of the poor and some day the government is going to be held accountable for these costs which are seen as wastage.

You keep telling yourself that.

History teaches that on the rare occasions when the wealthy and government are "held accountable" for their actions against the poor at all, it usually doesn't go very well for the poor.
