Both on the computer news and on Television, they are reporting that a new worm is to activate itself for April 1st. They admit it could be an April Fool's joke but they are not expecting that it is a joke. It is called the CONFICKER WORM. Apparently we could already have it on our computers and it is set to activate and do horrid things such as burning up the hard drive, retreiving banking information, passwords etc. Now what they tell us is to check our virus control and just make sure everything is up to date and we should be okay. Seems easy enough as long as we all make that simple check. No harm in checking.;-)

Someone on TV said it's actually another April Fool's Day joke.

Microsoft and a lot of the anti-virus companies figured it was probably just that, but with the initial proliferation of the Confliker-A worm and even the threat of a new version being unleashed they figured it was better to err on the side of caution. I don't blame them for issuing a warning at all.

Actually I haven't used a real worm for a long time.Used to get em out of the compost heap. Flies (lures) & grasshoppers are the thing nowadays. Reminds me, heard today that two guys attempting to ice-fish in Wood's Lake (between Kelowna and Vernon) got wet. One died. I mean "DUH" was the first term that entered my mind. Springtime ice-fishing is risky. Sorry for the relatives' loss, though.

Condolences to the families. Harsh lesson.

I still prefer a minnow hooked through at the dorsal. They don't last long ... just long enough to snag a good-sized pickeral.

Uh-oh.... Is PETA reading this?

Someone on TV said it's actually another April Fool's Day joke.

It was no joke or April Fools Gag..

But most using pirated software were the hardest hit..

It appears that many of the earliest victims of Conficker -- the dreaded computer virus that is supposed to switch into high gear on April Fool's Day -- are computer users with pirated copies of Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Brian O'Higgins, chief technology officer at computer security company Third Brigade, says the much-talked-about computer worm has efficiently spread itself out across some 10 million worldwide computers, many of which are located in Asia and Europe.

And because many users in these regions use machines with pirated copies of Microsoft operating systems, they may not be receiving the anti-virus update services that licensed Windows users are provided with. And as a result, they may be the most at-risk users.
