LONDON, Ont. — A 16-year-old girl suffered serious injuries when she was struck Friday by a Via Rail train east of London.
The girl, whose name wasn't released, was hit near shortly after 2 p.m.
She was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, police said.
"We're just happy that the young lady looks like she's going to survive this incident," Const. Chris Hunter said.
Via officials told passengers a pedestrian had been struck and asked over the intercom if there was a doctor or nurse on board, passenger Allan McDougall said.
"A nurse went out to help," he said. "And eventually what they ended up doing is bringing the (victim) who was hit onto the train."
The train was stopped and the teen, who appeared to be moving, was loaded onto a waiting ambulance, McDougall said.
"She had moved her arms and had a lot of bandaging around her head," he said.

She's lucky to be alive. There arent too many people who can say they were hit by a train and lived.

I wonder if some lawyer won't try to get her to sue because the train didn't attempt to steer around her

Seems to me she hit the train. Tracks and all that.

I remember reading of a case in Alberta where a horse was struck by a train and litigation ensued. It was denied as the Judge said: "Any horse that couldn't outrun a CPR train wasn't worth its oats."

Trains go much faster today....

The train was probably not going full speed, otherwise this story would more than likely be having a different outcome.

Could have been an early release day, she may be home-schooled, inclement weather, issue at the school caused the school to be closed that day (water leak, etc.). Or, maybe she decided to play hookey.
