Cops or robbers? Why do cops need ski masks if they are the good guys?

Depends on whether they are undercover officers or not. Also, some areas it would probably be a good thing to wear a mask. In Mexico, for example. The drug wars are getting way out of control over there. A Marine was killed in a shootout against a drug gang, and the gang killed members of that Marine's family(mother and sister, I think)! A pretty good reason to be wearing a mask, wouldn't you agree?

^ Agreed, If the police in question are involved in high risk operations like arresting bikies or drug gangs they wear balaclavas to stop reprisal attacks against their families.

As for the OP's article. Its still one side of the story for all we know he could have been resisting arrest or abusive towards them. If he was compliant and did nothing wrong then I hope the officers involved get their just rewards... but if its proven by an investigation that he needed to be restrained then dont count on the media printing a rhetorical.
