Polygamy? Polyandry? Gay Marriage? Really, so what? As long as everyone respects each other,
fill your boots! I have no problem with any of it, and I don't really understand anyone who does...
I have more than enough drama in what most consider as a normal Heterosexual two person union
that I couldn't be bothered with even entertaining the thought of a Polygamy relationship, but maybe
I'm just lazy.

Going back to the original Thread...regardless as to who wins the U.S. election, people will think that
something has changed (Bush is out and somebody else is in) and that might be enough to kick start
things (psychologically) and get the ball rolling again. The economy down south will improve because
people will expect it to due to the change in leadership, even if it's not much of a change. By this time
next year their economy will have improved (not great, but better) which will improve their outlook on
things and it will become a self perpetuating motion.

Whether it's Obama or McCain or a head of cabbage that ends up in charge, it's the perception of
change that's going to make the difference to the U.S. economy. With this in mind, my prediction is
that regardless as to whomever wins their next election, that person will serve two consecutive terms,
because they will have been perceived as having lead the country out of dark financial times.

I'm making this prediction 'cuz I'm on the outside looking in (seeing the forest, & not just the trees) but
can't do the same for Canada as I'm on the inside looking out (Boy there are a lot of trees in the way).

In countries where polygamy is legal, they are considered multiple marriages. The women are married to the man individually and they divorce individually. The women aren't married to each other, but are considered related by marriage, like sisters-in-law.

Why not start another string on the morality of polygamy/polyandry?
I don't think our contractual/property laws would accomodate that situation. If someone gives 100% of themselves and is getting 20% back there is the issue of inadequate consideration that could be argued. Plus, for example, most if not all provincial laws consider the spouse as having equal ownership of the primary residence no matter who bought it. So how would that work if one of the 5 marriages are annulled?

I'm not really taking a position on polygamy but was answering the question as to what the difference was between allowing same sex marriage and polygamy. Same sex marriage works exactly the same way as hetero. Polygamy is an entirely different ball of legal wax. There is no comparison or slippery slope connection.

Contract law can more than handle polygamy.

As ALL parties would have to equally agree to the terms (and splitting of resources in the break-up), whats the Issue?

How is it any different than if the group just shacked up? Would that be less unfair?
