The US army parade was lacklustre compared to British military parades like Trooping the Colour.

The British just seem so good at it...

So you didn't watch the video.

Cheers for that.

Depending on who you ask they were either silent protesting or marching to the sharp precision Trump wanted is something they don't do.

I believe it was likely the later - it was their way to protest. Kind'a like how they waved when in the tanks or riding horses and whatnot - apparently Trump was pissed at that.

As of my thirty-some years out of date experience, waving whilst on parade is an absolute no-no, unless specifically permitted in advance. But times change.

I rather doubt this was any kind of organized, or even disorganized, protest. The one thing I know for sure is that the military skews conservative, but not by much. Maybe 10% difference from the population. The decision to sign up is rarely motivated by who the Prez is at the moment.

I think in the end it really doesn't matter, the parade was always going to be a shitshow, just what kind was unclear.

Canadian military seems to be somewhat more towards Conservative than that. Possibly it is a form of job security, since the farther left you go, the less support of military.

You think only people who "support" the military join the military?

That is so damn cute!

Most of that comes from the idea that more military = more wars/loss of life.

Nuance is lost on the far left.

I'm all for the 5% NATO push that was agreed to and have said as much for a while. And I'm sure the screaming will be coming shortly.

The screams will come from the far left - who don't want the 'military complex' to increase at the expense of social programs - and the far right - who don't want increased deficits/spending which may lead to things like higher taxes (even on top of spending cuts) - and I can't wait to see who pitches more of a fit, honestly.

Waiting to see who has a fit? Really? Far left and far right LOVE military spending. It's the application of the military where differences are.

Considering how easily the military down here gets money thrown at it, I always thought we should put the Navy in charge of education, the Air Force in charge of the environment, the Coast Guard on pollution control, the Army on welfare payments, and the Marines on child care.
