I don't know the reason why they were opposed? You assume that... why?

Republicans who were okay with it before it went to the house changed their vote. Why? Because they "fear" the Dems will take a change made in the House to shift money from discretionary to mandatory means the Dems have an out to spend money however they want. But there's no proof of any of that. Considering how many R's in the house voted to pass it even WITH the change, I think this clearly shows that the Senate R's are purposefully and willfully out to make sure NOTHING important gets done for ANY person living in the US while the Dems are in power, because that'd give them a win and they can't have that.

The bill is to help Vets, that's it.

In the end, this is the proof that despite their 'support for the troops' when going to or at war, they don't give a shit after the fact.

"While Toomey said he supported the bill, he argued lawmakers should work to curb wasteful spending amid high inflation."

Vets and taking care of them = wasteful spending.

Good to know.

Yes, 400 billion Toomey "claims" will be spent as a slush fund for anything and everything.

Except that's not true.

Any extra moneys STILL would have to be agreed upon - spending wise - by Congress itself, not individual parties. So it's not like the R's won't have a say if extra money goes to the Vets, which is where the money would still go, let's just be real here.

It's a bullshit excuse to get out of giving the Dems a win, pure and simple.

And it's the R's getting butthurt that the Dems got them on board with CHIPS but said no to a reconciliation package and the Dems were okay with that. But then Manchin and Schumer got a 'deal' (yeah, believe that only when it's signed by Biden) and out Turtled the Turtle (say one thing, do another, win).

This is revenge, pure and simple, at the expense of Vets.
