Evil Empire
The American people elected Obama and his legislation has survived SCOTUS challenge. It is law. For the extreme right to ignore the result of a national election and the highest court in America and try to blackmail the nation into changing duly made law should be punished. Obviously the US still has not matured as a democracy.

Democracy isn't a destination mr tober, it's a journey, it is constantly in flux by people that disagree, no issue is ever "settled", that's real democracy.

No it isn't free. You pay for it through taxes and it is that which is supported by the vast majority of Canadians.

In Alberta, because of oil revenues, each resident at the end of the year received a Prosperity check.. however, they cancelled that out and swapped it out for no health care premiums..

I'm sure taxes pay for plenty of health services too..

But when Provinces such as BC pay $64/mo and up and on average have lower wages that Alberta.. (oh wife just got back with McDees, later)

Am I missing something here. You think a city or a state is liable because someone trips on a sidewalk or a step? ...

Yes, if it can be proven the city or provincial government was negligent. What is wrong with the "person" (including a company or government) who owns and maintains the roadway or sidewalk being liable if its negligence causes damage?

Nothing unusual about having to buy insurance. In Canada you have to purchase Provincial coverage.

Except that in Canada the private sector greed is removed from the insurance aspect of medicine. America's greedy and powerful are very resentful of the example we have provided.

Agreed, but it has some standards. Your fascist tea party is without standards. It has lost its way.

(Sure we took private sector greed out (except from suppliers and contractors) and replaced it with public sector greed. was it an even trade? )

Maybe you need a new set of ethics! Ones closer to a human being!

I much prefer the French system where lawyers for both sides and the judge cooperate in a search for the TRUTH. It is despicable the way lawyers in America especially twist and warp things and avoid the truth. Truth is justice and if you work in the justice system without any regard for the truth you have no ethics at all!

I have tecumsehbones usually on ignore so I usually miss his posts, but is he saying he is a US "attorney"? Good Lord, heaven forbid.

PoliticalNick, you seem rather smart from where I sit, but your comments at times amaze me. You do not know anything about the US debt, nothing, nada. Eighty percent of our debt can be wiped away with a blink of any eye, get real.
Well if that were the case you would only take 65 years at 50 billion a year to pay it off but that is beside the point. Fact is if you could wipe out 80% in the blink of an eye you would, or at least you should. I know if I could do away with 80% of my debt that quick it would be done. Then again you seem to keep proving you really know squat about your own government and less about the banking system and are most likely stupified if I mentioned the debt-based currency system which you probably equate to banking but I would surmise you think the Fed is actually a federal govt agency. If I told you the fed is private and was started by a 20% stake from the govt which was used to fund fractional reserve loans to the private owners your head might explode realizing your govt got duped into turning control of your currency over to private bankers by using govt money. Neat trick eh? You guys got f*cked with your own dough and now you are pwned and can never get out of it. Well you can and quite easily but your citizens are generally stupid and your elected officials are owned and controlled by the bankers who pwned you and they are willing to send you into illegal wars or impose martial law and a police state to ensure the status quo remains.

Hope I didn't use too many big words for you and hope you continue to believe I'm full of sh*t so you can continue your useless life to enrich those bankers. Best of luck buddy!

Yes to an attorney, from what I can gather from comments. I do believe he is a she but can't be sure. I never put anyone on ignore, even the most asinine and stupid on here will occasionally post a gem or even something you can agree with and it would be a shame to miss that.

Obama-nation! Elderly Couple Tossed Out Of Home They’ve Owned For 40 Years Because Of “Shutdown”

They weren’t even able to grab Ralph’s pants.
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) — The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they’re being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They’ve been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn’t an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they’ve owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

“I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants,” Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart’s Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they’re not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, “Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen.”

Joyce Spencer said she’s alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

“I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in,” Spencer said. “We’re not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants.”

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it’s their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.
By the way, when I went looking for a picture of Lake Mead for this story, I clicked on the link for Lake Mead and got a National Parks Service Notice that the site wasn’t in operation because of the shutdown. But they are still paying to host the site, having a notice as opposed to normal operations, so it saves them no money at all.

Apparently the SEALs are "essential" employees because they were hard at work today in Libya and Somalia, nabbing amongst others, the guy responsible for the 1998 embassy bombings

Ouch!

11:45pm in Alberta and the ticker says congressmen have been paid $1,285,900.00 since the shutdown. What a great system in America.

And Americans brag they are "free"? I'm glad Canada doesn't have their kind of freedom.

In case you missed it it got past the US Supreme Court too, that challenge has past. It is quite constitutional (as much as any other legislation) and is very much binding.

What I see is that once it gets into full swing and 45 million people that never had healthcare suddenly have it and can afford it there won't be a popular consensus to go back. The Reps see this as their last shot to make life easier & cheaper for businesses.

Me, I say tough titties to corporations and businesses, I would have made it so they had to insure all employees all the time regardless.

They created their own problem. Obama tried for a universal program like ours but US Republicans forced a system funded at work.

The majority of Canadians don't see that reality... They are spoon-fed this pap about 'free' healthcare and swallow it whole

The capital markets would have something to say about that

I'd say the one who puts folk on ignore is the one who can dish it out but can't take it.

Just a thought.

The cons are fighting for liberty not keep non-essential gubmint funded.[/FONT]

These are the same people who introduced the Patriot Act and raped the 4th amendment. They aren't interested in liberty. What they are fighting for is their buddies who own private sector insurance who stand to lose a boatload of money. You obviously don't know your a$$hole from your breakfast!

I understand that Obamacare requires that everyone have insurance - not necessarily provided by gvt.

This legislation will help the insurance companies in terms of ensuring that they have an unlimited supply of paying customers.

Care to review which party is legislating this?
