I have a question.

When I see on the main page the Blue Profile section with Avatar, why does it say under my username:

"Clever Clogs in
Atlantic Canada"

I'm in At.Canada, but since when did I own intelligent Clogs?

Oh it's your forum rank ;) You'd see it on posts too if you didn't have a custom title set.

Just added it :) All tabs will be collapsible, and saved in a cookie. Hide any boxes you don't want to see.

I've been trying to play around with that.... but I only see the one for the "Top Threads" which expands/closes, not any of the other sections.

I played around with clicking on the green/gray arrows beside each section but they do not expand. Is it just the "Top Threads" section available for this feature or will all the sections have this? (ie: displaying most recent threads in each section)

At the moment, the whole right column is setup for expandable boxes, the same with top threads. The forum sections, ie. Canadian Café, Politics will be set up shortly. I just haven't had the time today to finish the whole project and I was anxious to get it live today.

Oh geez, no worries, just double checking and making sure I wasn't missing something. I know how much of a pain in the arse it can be to get one or two effects for every section of a page, or pages. After a while your eyes get crossed.

I'm not in any rush of course.

Andem, I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I am with the look of the main page. Awesome. Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments :) It's giving me some ideas on revamping some other areas of the site.

I've actually observed a few things since this new main page has been created, and that is I find less people are posting then before. I mean for the most part, I seem to be posting the most recently. I am wondering if it has to do with members not getting the quick access to the top tabs which previously existed for most of the main sections. (Which I think might have given more members opportunity to quickly see more threads in which they were interested in.)

Or is it just me?

I have a few other Q&C's but will hold on them for now (Related to Site Ops)

It could be just a lull. I'm bored as well, but who is to blame? I don't think it is the new and improved Home Page. Praxius, you and I must work harder, finding topics of broad interest!!!
I would have thought that the 9/11 discussion by the Japanese Parliament would have sparked some comments.... not a single one! My "little angels" earlier.... not one word!

It also has to do with the time of day, because naturally, most Canadians work. By the time they get around after supper to look at the displayed topics, there is not much selection, because they disappear too quickly into the underground. Hot topics of the day get shoved out of sight by jokes, religion, philosophy, recipes... anything, it's like a conveyor belt. That bothers me a little... good topics disappear into the backroom within 10 or 20 minutes, if nobody throws a new post on them fast.

Sorry, Andem, I'm a spoiled kid!!:p It has a lot do with just plain getting used to the system - I'm still not quite at ease with it, and I know other newbies have difficulty finding their way around.
What I really like here are the friendly mods and admin! That you, Andem, make yourself visible every day and chat with us "commoners";-), is special, and rare in other forums I have visited.

Hard to say guys... there are times when all of forum-land is slower than usual... it does suck when you show up to yak and there's little to yak with or about though, doesn't it?

Sometimes when that happens I try to start a game thread .... anyone got a good one?

See, I sorta figured most would still be working during the daytime, but on average, since I've been in these forums, I have noticed a dive in posting during the daytime in the last week or so. It wasn't much to begin with, but was enough to keep things interesting as I get paid to draw. But now it's a bit slower I find.

See that's what I was thinking was occuring. Before you'd get the most recent topics in each section.... now it's just the top 10 or so of all threads.

Honestly I found it harder to find my way around in the original layout, but the quick reference tabs for the sections helped a lot. Now I see a list of all the sections, but the tabs are gone and takes a bit longer to view what I need.

Just nit pickin' :p

See what made me leave the previous forums I was in, was not that the mods didn't or did too much with communicating with other members.... it was the attitude towards the members which made me leave.

I couldn't care less of a Mod saying things like "These forums are not a Democracy, you do not have full freedom of speach or expression here.... suck it up." in fact, I usually back them up and say it along with them. (I've yet to need that line in my own forums, but someday)

Mods can be straight forward, direct, and hell.... they can even be pissy at times too if they like. It's their forums not mine.

But when I hear a moderator basically state that the individual members are not important to the overall community, that those who leave will easily be replaced, and that members won't be really missed, that to me shows a great lack in appreciation to those people who actually keep that forum running for those mods. If it wasn't for those members posting and contributing as they did, then those mods wouldn't have anything to do and probably wouldn't have a site either.

So I decided to make a stand and posted my departure based on those comments by the head moderator. I was at those forums for over a year anyways, acumulated a few thousand posts, created most of the active threads at the time, kept the variety flowing.... and then get handed a plate of shat.

I don't need moderators or other members to pat me on the back and say "God job there chum" ~ That's not the point. Heck I could post in here for years and if moderators or members never said anything directly I couldn't care less..... but don't dare try and trivialize the members contributions in the forums.

What's my point?

I like stories.

 Ah, a slow couple days is it? It's because I've been busy. And without my charm and wit around Praxius, the forum just loses a bit of its previous luster. I'll be back, I promise. As soon as the wedding's over and my company is all gone home, I'll be posting again.

You nailed it, Karrie. And I'm sure my pretty face has been missed here, as well.

But, like you, very busy lately.

And to Dancing Loon, yeah, there really is a lot of stuff going on in the world we should be talking about. Don't give up. Keep talking.

Well I guess I just have to step up the nipple rubbings and arse gyros in my cowboy boots and speedos while you're away.

The tone makes the music, as we say in German, and that is so true. And the tone amongst us posters could stand a little improvement, in my opinion.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the dialogs between Beaver and his pals!! It was so heartily hilarious at times, my body was shaking with laughter... I could have rolled on the floor!! That I missed in the other forum, where one was always a target to someone or a group of them. Once a clique has formed and banded together, they pretty much run the forum and ultimately destroy it. Another thing I observed was, that a forum gets divided into liberal, conservative, free thinkers, the far right and Jewish fractions. The problem starts when the administration takes sides and favors one group and undeservedly punishes another. THAT I have not yet noticed here, thank God!

Us all, together with Andem, can make this forum one of the better ones on the web!! Nooo Sweat!! gell, Chris?;-)

I think the issue of people posting less will decrease now.

We run a network of servers to handle the load across the entire site. Our search engine has a dedicated server, for one and databases are hosted on another.

Since we lost a server to hardware failure a while back, it's been difficult to maintain the stability of the site but I've recently shuffled things about and have found the loads to be perfect right now. Less errors, faster loading times and a better user experience should be expected now!

Let me know of any slow-loading periods and I'll run some diagnostics.
