Just a couple more thoughts on DU.

DU, which is mostly U-238 is fully 60 percent as radioactive as U-235 has a half life of over four billion years. That means it will still be radioactive when our sun dies. The coalition, mainly the U.S., has spread over 600 tons of DU around the countryside in Iraq and Afghanistan. 600 tons of a poison that for all intents and purposes, doesn't go away.

The first statement is indicative of the lack of knowledge about the effects of agents orange and purple.

Then you go on to say that it was used as a weapon, though its effects were not known at that time and it had no accute effects. So your assertion that it was used as a weapon is incorrect and more likely, more of your anti US spin, then it is of any factual accumulation of evidence, as hilited by the first post, I sighted.

No it's not, it's a simple anecdotal recitation of common practice with the substance at the time. When you use a chemical to destroy enemy infrastructure and or cover it may bloody well easily be seen by most sentient beings external to the military as haveing been employed as a gadang weapon and chemical in nature.A chemical weapon, not garden weed spray. I hope that clears the fog from your tired tedious brain.

The properties of DU, or U-2388)8), are not that different from U-235. Both are radioactive both are chemically toxic. Breathing in the dust of either is bad for you. Hundreds of tons of this material has been spread over Iraq, and to a lessor degree in Afghanistan. Birth defects in those countries markedly higher than before the war. Birth defects in the U.S. among the families of soldiers who were exposed is obviously higher. Is DU safe? Ask the families of those soldiers who died from it.

http://www.sonaliandjim.net/politics/DU/DU_paper.htm

1.) U238 and U235 are VASTLY different isotopes.

I mean, seriously, one will melt your skin, one you can play catch with.

Look at the chart, about 99.3% of Uranium is 238, 0.7% is 235. Take away that 0.7% and you are left with HALF the radiation.

This is from your link. Therefore: DU is over 140 times less radioactive than uranium 235.

2.) Yes, it is chemically toxic, so is lead.

Seriously, you are using the fact that MUNITIONS are toxic to imply DU munitions are somehow worse than Non-DU.

Look at the Birth Defect rates in countries that went to war without DU, they are about the same, sometimes higher, same with returning veterans. Feel free to look into it and compare the results (and use wars of equal intensity, don't compare some 2 day long invasion to a protracted 10 year grinding war). Arsenic is very toxic, used in explosives, doesn't EVER go away and causes birth defects.

You can't make the point that DU rounds are worse than normal munitions, no matter what stats you post, without the same stats showing the effects of non-DU rounds.

I'll await your post.

Ya... Its not a weapon if it doesn't kill you. Unless they were slipping it into the commies water supply, it isn't a chemical weapon.

If it were a chemical weapon, they would fall over within 2 seconds and spasm so hard they snap their own spine and litterally coughed up their lungs in spattered bits.

Thats what chemical weapons do, even rudimentary ones, and there is no confusion with a defoliant that in 10 years causes cancer.

Seriously, clear the fog from your damaged at birth brain there. Idiocy like what you are spouting, trivialises the suffering of people who have been victimized by REAL chemical weapons. You are the type of person who compares getting a parking ticket to suffering nazi persecution. Grow up.

The US will ALWAYS use DU. There is nothing better and there is no armor that can stop it. Do you think we will trade that capability... forget it.

DU pops the turrett off every tank it comes in contact with. It punctures a pencil size hole in the side of a tank, showering the occupants with molten steel, killing them and cooking off the ammo inside.

It is great stuff.

Unless you are exposed to it and have unexplained sickness that the U.S. government dosen't acknowledge or care for.

It is a nice way to treat your heros.

You're obviously the victim of a horse**** attack, in your opening sentence you suppose that I would be perfectly free to beat you senceless with a broken axe handle and not face assault with a weapon charges. You are the type of person who would waste thier three or four remaining brain cells formulating nonsenseical rubbish into a sentence.

The Iraq war casualty figures are worse than you think. Depleted uranium is killing returned soldiers -- slowly. Children born to veterans show the same birth defects suffered by Iraqi children. Gulf War II is, in a sense, a nuclear war.

An important new film called Poison DUst -- note the intentionally capitalized DU -- documents this tragedy. Go here to watch it. (If you prefer to download it to your system, find an appropriate Mozilla video downloader here.) I am presuming that the film is online legally; if not, then I encourage you to pay to see it.

BushCo does not want you to see this film. If everyone in the country knew the truth, recruitment would drop to zero. And keep in mind: This administration is doing everything it can to rob returning veterans of their benefits.

[FONT=Verdana,Arial]Poison DUst tells the story of young soldiers who thought they came home safely from the war, but didn't. Of a veteran's young daughter ... all » whose birth defect is strikingly similar to birth defects suffered by many Iraqi children. Of thousands of young vets who are suffering from the symptoms of uranium poisoning, and the thousands more who are likely to find themselves with these ailments in the years to come. Of a government unwilling to admit there might be a problem here. Filmmaker Sue Harris skillfully weaves the stories of these young veterans with scientific explanations of the nature of "DU" and its dangers, including interviews with former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, New York Daily News reporter Juan Gonzalez, noted physicist Michio Kaku, Dr. Rosalie Bertell, Dr. Helen Caldicott and Major Doug Rokke- the former U.S. Army DU Project head.

Every American who cares about our troops should watch this film. Everyone who cares about the innocent civilians who live in the countries where these weapons are used should watch this film. And everyone who cares about the hatred of Americans that may result from the effects of our government's actions in using these weapons, should watch this film. Is there a cover-up?
