Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay has said the UK and EU share a "common purpose" in reaching a new withdrawal deal, after a meeting in Brussels with chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier.

If by "new deal" the Johnson Adminstration means May's deal with just the Irish backstop taken out then it still won't be proper Brexit.

Mr Johnson needs to be careful. The survival of his party - the oldest in the world - rests on his delivering Brexit.

Just coming up with May's surrender document with the backstop taken out is not Brexit and could spell the end of the Conservative and Unionist Party and be a big boost to our Brexit Party. He needs to do much more than just get rid of the backstop.

Any deal needs to be full, 100%, Brexit. Anything less and Johnson will be severely punished at the next election. And he knows this. It's his only option.

I wonder how ironic it'll be if Brexit doesn't happen due to the Irish border issue.

(Yes we know, it's gonna happen regardless, Blackie)

Boris's Brexit plans looked doomed already. So No Deal it is.

EU dismisses Boris Johnson's Brexit plans before they have even got off the ground as officials leak withering assessment of proposals to replace the Irish backstop

In what will be seen in Westminster as a hostile act, EU officials leaked a withering assessment of new British proposals to replace the controversial Irish backstop (top, Boris Johnson outside Downing Street yesterday). UK sources last night dismissed the assessment. But the decision to leak the document, which was circulated to ambassadors from the other 27 EU countries, will be seen as an attempt by European Commission hardliners to undermine talks which have been gathering momentum (bottom-left Angela Merkel and bottom-right Emmanuel Macron).

Steve Barclay warns Michel Barnier that he would be held responsible for No Deal…

Steve Barclay has warned Michel Barnier he will be held responsible for No Deal – as political talks on revamping the backstop resume today. The Brexit Secretary said the Commission will cop the blame for “crystallising” a crash out if it sticks to its “rigid” approach. Speaking in Madrid after meetings with Spanish officials, he said the Irish border fix is unacceptable for four reasons and “has to go”. And he warned eurocrats are imperilling future UK-EU relations “because of a lack of flexibility, creativity and indeed pragmatism”. Mr Barclay stormed: “Great political leaders have always respected the need to take risk. “A refusal by the Commission to accept any risk would be a failure of statecraft. Leadership requires more than remaining within a safety net.” He added: “We risk being trapped in a zero sum game, which will lead to zero outcomes, which I do not want. “The EU risks continuing to insist on a test that the UK cannot meet and that the UK Parliament has rejected three times. – The Sun

Port of Dover says it is 100% Ready for No Deal

The Port of Dover — through which a sixth of the UK’s trade in goods flows — can cope with any disruption thrown up by a no-deal Brexit, Chief Executive Officer Doug Bannister said, suggesting some of the direr predictions of chaos are wide of the mark. “The Port of Dover is 100% ready,” he said in an interview in his harbor-side office with views of the town’s castle, its famous white cliffs, its all-important port, and — across the English Channel — France. “Ferry operators: 100% ready. Calais, Dunkirk: 100% ready.”

Ultimately? The Queen's.
I'm surprised I have to explain how this works to a veteran of the Royal Navy.

The only people who would put up any hard border would be the Irish - and they're preparing to do so.

The British and the EU won't impose one.

And there'd be nothing unusual in having a border between an EU and non-EU state: most EU states border non-EU states.

France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Austria, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovakia all border non-EU countries.

That you deny Britain's role in the ongoing problems in Ireland surprises nobody.

You could, ultimately, blame it on the Normans and the Scots.

As for Brexit, any hard border will be imposed by the Irish, not the British, and no country should be denied its independence and freedom just because the neighbouring country vows to impose a hard border.

Scotland wants to remain in the EU.
