So why force some businesses to close even though there may not be a single Christian working there?

Why force them to close on Thanksgiving even though there may not be a single turkey working there?

Christmas is a statutory holiday. Certainly it's history is based in Christianity, no argument, but I don't observe Christian practice, to me it's a family holiday. I certainly am not forced to observe Christian practices just because it's a statutory holiday.

So why not eliminate it as a statutory holiday?

Why eliminate it? You don't provide a satisfactory argument for it. Certainly not one that fully believe the vast majority of Canadians would be in agreement with.

Anyway, it's besides the point. The original point being that legislating the cessation of business/school/government activity and imposing sanctions for not complying so that people may observereligious holiday practice is vastly different than legislating that people must observe religious practice and imposing sanctions for not doing that.

Why not f off and leave our traditions alone, lol.

There ya go, lol.

Even people who do not embrace the traditions, all or some, of Christian practices have a strong affinity with Christmas holidays. It has evolved to be more than just a religious holiday.

I'm not talking about your traditions. Those are your business. I'm talking about our laws.

So kindly f off.

This also violates the right of a person to work. If the business chooses to close, that's different. But when it's legislated to do so, it interferes with the right to work for those who want to.

Why must my paI'd vacays be on your traditional days? Why not just let the worker choose his paid vacays then?

Because not everyone can have things exactly the way they want.

I'll bet you real money that if you were to query every Canadian coast to coast they would be opposed to changing the status of Christmas Day as a stat holiday. Christian and non Christian alike.

Come to think of it... US Troops are probably getting a good laugh at the "official release" by the military and eating and drinking as they please.
