Without quibbling about the reason for Ford's steep in popularity, I think we need more democratic intervention with our leaders.

As technology allows for it, we should eventually have vote referendums on an annual basis to reassert the value of their performance, and duly reward or punish them.
Funny how this type of discontent always spikes when some peoples ideological foe gets elected.

Private sector officials are subject to annual performance reviews. Same should go for public officials.
Ya, that worked out well on Wall St.

Hey MF how do you feel about Hazel?

I honestly don't do as much research as I should on her, but as far as I know, she's getting pretty grilled for misrepresentation. My opinion of her at face value (feel free to prove me wrong) is that most people give her a pass because she looks like a sweet, old lady.

If the "Occupy" crowd had a clue, they'd all chip in to buy one stock of each company they dislike and voice their disdain at stockholder meetings. There is also another option use the Gov which is a major stockholder of various corps through pensions, trusts and comingled funds to directly voice their issues as public owners of stock. It's mind blowing how much of Wall St is held by pensions and other public monies.

She's your mayor dude. WTF!

Personally, I think Hazel was a good Mayor who was in for too long. Hence her conflict of Interest involving her boy.

And don't kid yourself, Hazel isn't a sweet old lady. She could probably take both of us on and that's even if we had a tire iron and hunk a chain.

heh - yea, I didn't really bother voting last year because I knew it would be a complete blow out.

I follow the T.O. stuff more closely because I used to live in the GTA and there looks to be a very.. um.. poignant political scrum going on in Toronto right now.

I would love to see Ford get his ass handed to him (as CDN will contend) but I don't feel like waiting 3 more years of harm for it. ;)

The undemocratic principle aside, what makes his policies any less harmful than, say Miller's?

From what I've been reading Ford is using some budgetary trickery, and he still can't pay off the city deficit/debt. He also preaches against unions, but gives in to police union demands. And then, there are the social blunders - not attending gay pride, bird flipping people, talking on his cell while driving. And the latest polls show his support dropped to around 30% if I'm not mistaken.

There is tons of stuff mounting, no where near the backlash that Miller endured in his first year.

Edit: I didn't even mention his transit failure - which was probably his most compelling promise just a year ago.
